Title: old user - why a newbie forum?
Post by: chodethumper on March 17, 2013, 09:52 pm
I'm curious about the background of the newbie forum.  I have posted here before and I was allowed to post on the regular forums, maybe last year.  What lead up to them creating this forum?  Why weren't old users grandfathered in to the other forums?

The admins implemented this 50 post policy in order to give us moderators a better shot at controlling the bitcoin scam spam.  This way, we have more time to notice them and delete their scamming spam before they are able to flood the entire forums.

I have been very sporadic reading the forums, I don't know what the bitcoin scam spam was, if you have time would you indulge my curiosity?

You'll see it sometime, I'm sure.  It's the posts advertising bitcoin at ridiculously cheap prices and usually advertising a scam site as well.  They're scammers though, with usernames like "jwkrejwoer" and advertising scam sites like "virwex" and "btkoin" and "mtgix" and "bitcointalks" etc.

Well, I know it's frustrating to some people, but it has made a big difference in our ability to fight the bitcoin spammers, so we definitely appreciate the understanding.
