Title: Order cancelled by vendor; cost me money.
Post by: porkm1 on March 08, 2013, 08:47 pm
Hello All,

Quick questions regarding order cancellations.  I placed an order with a vendor yesterday and it was cancelled today but my refund came back with .04 BTC less.  I understand the hedged item concept, but wouldn't this situation not warrant a hedging of my payment since the vendor did not ship or process anything?  I feel that it's not appropriate for me to be charged just for trying to place an order.  If someone could shed some light on this for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Escrow hedging applies as soon as the order is placed.

Thank you for your quick response scout.  So as a newb I'd be better off contacting the Vendor to make sure that s/he will honor my order prior to placing it?

Thanks again!

(I also posted a message in the PGP newb forum to your test PGP working, if you could see that I did it successfully that would be great!)

Sorry, I can't check the PGP right now - having some issues here.  Anyway, no, you shouldn't need to contact the vendor prior to placing an order, and even if you did, something could still come up and they could still cancel the order.

You could just place non-hedged orders (it should show whether it is hedged or not after you add it to your cart, I believe).

Happened to me recently too.

It was especially annoying since my order was 100% complying with the guidelines of that vendor which I will PROUDLY NAME:

Drugstore

Although Drugstore doesn't display it in it's vendor page, he will refuse any domestic order (at least it's what he said to me). So I passed my order, and 2 days later or so he cancelled it. It was of course hedge for the worst + SE fees.

Since Drugstore didn't even bother replying to my polite and very reasonable message, I think it's worth warning people NOT TO order him domestically (or ordering at all for what it's worth).

I share your pain, paying fee for a canceled order seems a bit unfair, especially when the vendor is at fault.

I had this happen a few hours ago. No message from him or anything. Lost .05 BTC on a small order. :-( I realize they are careful with newbies, but this could get expensive,
