Should I always encrypt messages sent to vendors on SR with PGP (if a key is provided)? Or is that just for email communication? Is it commonplace to avoid descriptive subject lines on both communication mediums? How much do we trust the security of SR and its messaging system?
Thanks,

It's always better to be safe than sorry, so any time you are exchanging any kind of sensitive / personal information, you want to encrypt it.
If, on the other hand, you're just writing to a vendor to ask a general question or something, then you don't need to encrypt.

An excellent question for a Newbie sub-forum, were it not completely clogged with meaningless chatter.

A good rule of thumb is that if you wouldn't be comfortable with law enforcement reading your message then encrypt it.
I don't mean by this encrypt a message saying 'got weed?', but if you think your security, anonimity or safety would be compromised - now or at any time in the future - by it being read by LE then encrypt it.

sleepyeyes2k2, I was thinking that same thing. I hope you don't mind me posting here.
Scout and Oompaloompa, thanks for your advice. I didn't encrypt my address the first times I ordered but I will from now on.
One last question, is there a place for buyers to post their public keys on SR? Or must encrypted communication always be initiated by buyers using a provided vendor key?

Oh, god no. And, if I did care, so what? Who the fuck am I? I'm nobody, dude, I just sometime give okay advice to newbies, since I was one (am one still on many subjects).
+1 to nitpi for posting that link. I was pulling it up while you were posting it.

I've noticed with the 5-6/7 vendors I've used, that most don't mind. Look at their transaction account, people with more transactions/clients are less likely to probably wanna do PGP all the way though communications. Some prefer it esp the CID people
