Title: Creating your liveUSB on Mac?
Post by: ws on February 02, 2013, 09:43 pm
Hi,

I am new to tor, silk road so not too sure about everything but I went into the security thread and found the complete all-in-one guide on creating liveUSB but I think that is just windows?

This is my first Mac computer so still not amazing on these, always used windows, does anyone having a step by step which might help me?

I have bought a USB stick and formatted it,  its just the installing liberte which I seem to be stuck on?

Thanks,

WS

I tried for about a week to create a bootable liveUSB with Tails ... never did get it to work.  I was able to set up the USB and the necessary reFIT/reFIND stuff, and have it all show up properly upon startup ... but then when I would select to boot from the thumb drive, it always gave me an error.

So, now I'm just using a liveCD/DVD with Tails on it -- and a separate USB for important documents/keys/etc.

It's way easier, in my opinion!  My macbook air doesn't have an optical drive, so I just bought a cheap external DVD drive for $6 or so.  Works perfectly and was - at least for me - so much easier to get running.  And although there isn't a definitive answer about whether to use Tails or Liberte, I'd recommend Tails.
