On average, how long does it take to get your BTC into your account?
I sent some from bitbargain.co.uk almost 2 hours ago now and i'm still told I have 0.00 credit :-\
If they never arrive, who do I take this up with? bitbargain?
Gah!
-
I'd say wait a bit longer. Sometimes it takes quite awhile
Fingers crossed you didn't type the wrong address
-
I used the same company and it was something between 2-3 hours
-
Ok, cheers guys, patience doesn't come naturally to me!
I'll give it til' the morning and if it's not there i'll, uh, I don't know what i'll do - probably kick myself and try a new bitcoin buying site, god dammit.
If I have to complain to bitbargain and give them my wallet number, will they know it's going to SR?
-
I downloaded a bitcoin client on my computer that alerts me if I'm receiving or sending a transaction, and it's status of completion. I'll always send my bitcoins from the site I bought them off of, into my wallet on my computer, then to my SR address. This way I can track all movement of MY money so I can avoid these issues. If you really want to put your mind at ease, I would suggest downloading any bitcoin client, just google them (or startpage bitcoin client if you're paranoid) and Bob's your uncle. It'll save you a lot of headache. (heartache too?)
Good luck traveling the road! ;)

sometimes takes up to 6h

go to blockchain.info, enter your deposit address on the middle right hand side, it willl show you the progress of your deposit, SR needs 6 confirmations. Up to 24 hours in some cases but most likely less.
-
I have had some deposits take 12+ hrs to show up I always think I messed something up when copying and pasting the addresses but they always show up.

Ok, i've tried that and it says the BTC has been received and I have 16 confirmations (whatever that means) but it's still not showing up on SR.
I'm going to have a look in the morning and will let you know if it's arrived.
Thanks for the help.

I did mine via MoneyGram today, and had them in SR within two hours or so. It varies greatly depending on the time of day it seems like.

If that's the case contact SR support

Anywhere from thirty minutes to three hours for me.
-
I use bitbargin at the minute they do charge a little over the odd's but you know it's in your bit wallet it normally take's about 65 min's to transfere for me but today took about 3 hour's and I lost money on it because I had enough coin when I started for my order but by the time it came I was short so I had to put more fund's in and so I missed the post so i'm a little pissed myself but I just put it down to it being friday and people are spending they're wages, but in your case if you've been refreshing the page and logged in and out contact bitbargin and SR support.
Good Luck

I've been using blockchain.info for buying coins. Never takes more than a couple hours. I would contact SR support.
-
So I sent my money from bitinstant to a tor webmail a couple of hours ago and from coinapult to my fresh account on silk road and it hasn't arrived in about 8 hours. Did I do anything wrong?
-
I think there's an issue on SR right now I also just saw a post in Tech Support that a user to user transfer did not go through. Also, I have 29 confirms and no BTC have arrived in my account when previously I'd get it 15 minutes after the 7th confirm like clockwork.
-
Same here. Im at 48 confirmations I hope everything is ok
-
In my opinion a problem on SR is better than something went wrong with your individual transaction. I did some research on the forums before getting worried and when the problem has been on SR's end and impacting everyone it gets fixed fast and then all the transactions post over the next couple of hours while if it's an individual issue you have to contact support, wait for them to wade through 500+ "I sent by BTC 20 minutes ago and it's still not here WTF?" emails and investigate those just to find out the BTC showed up 10 minutes later and they didn't even have the decency to follow up with a "NM problems resolved" reply before they get to yours.

buy from a reputable vendor on the road. coins will be there instantly! plus you are helping to keep the road liquid!
-
Ah I see. What do you think the problem is? How long do they usually take to fix? Also I purchased my bitcoins off of bitinstant and paid for them at a CVS if that information helps
-
i'm waiting for SR to tell me it's recieved the coins i sent about 2-3 hours ago. hopefully they're confirmed soon, i hate waiting

i'd say kernel panic which is what i say when i don't want to admit i just blindly restarted services until i got lucky.
it seems like the same thing happened on the 14th or 15th and it took about 8 hours to fix but i could be mistaken. there's no need to worry i have never seen a thread about BTC being transferred and not arriving at SR have anything but a happy ending.
-
the longest i have EVER waited was 5 hours...
-
Well, fellow SR'ers, I woke up this morning and checked my account a 9am and it was still empty; that's a good 12 hours.
HOWEVER, I have just had a look and all is there and all is well. Phhewww!
Moral of the story: be patient, chances are it didn't fuck up, it just sometimes takes a while.
-
UPDATE: Just waited a bit and my bitcoins finally hit my account! Now thats out of the way. Best way to anonymously exchange USD to BTC? I used a money gram at a local CVS that asked for my I.D and wasn't comfortable doing so. I just want to protect myself and the community as much as possible

For anyone with delays getting coins in. Check the blockchain and look at the address you sent it to. Was that transaction confirmed? It must get to 6 confirmations before SR will even start to tumble it around and add it to your account.
If there is no fee on the transaction it CAN (but usually doesn't) take days to get its first confirmation. Typically a few hours. After that you need 5 more confirmations and then there is the SR introduced delay. If its been multiple (over 24?) hours after 6 confirmations on the transaction, then maybe ask support. Otherwise just keep waiting. imo

It seems like there was some kind of issue late last night where things were taking much longer than usual. Glad to see the issue was addressed!

At first, getting bitcoins can seem like a daunting task--it isn't. Follow these instructions if you're in the USA:
-- To start, open a throwaway account with Mt. Gox at https://mtgox.com/. No need to verify this account unless you're gonna be trading big money.
-- Go to "funding options/add funds"
-- Use the drop-down menu to select "BitInstant," which will give you instructions and your account number.
-- Go to BitInstant at https://www.bitinstant.com/
-- The reason you need a Mt. Gox account is that BitInstant doesn't sell bitcoins; you must trade for them at Mt. Gox. BitInstant allows you to immediately fund your Mt. Gox account so you can start trading.
-- Use the drop-down menu to select "cash deposit" and choose a local retailer, such as Wal-Mart or CVS.
-- Fill in your info and you will download a .pdf file with information for filling out a blue MoneyGram slip at Wal-Mart. Basically, you're "paying a bill" to ZipZap, Inc. and you will be entering their four-digit receive code and account number on the form. Use your real name, address, etc. on the MoneyGram. It doesn't matter, since everything will be laundered and untraceable by the time it gets to Silk Road. Use fake info for your Mt. Gox account, although I don't think it matters. Some people use fake names on the MoneyGram. I guess it doesn't make any difference, since they don't require ID. I used my real info because I was afraid of the transaction being flagged or cancelled.
-- Go to your local retailer, fill out the MoneyGram with the info provided from BitInstant, and pay for it with cash. There is a $3.95 fee.
-- You money will appear in your Mt. Gox account within 4 minutes--1 hour at the most (never takes that long).
-- Use the "trade" button to buy bitcoins.
-- Go to "funding options/withdraw" and use the drop-down menu to select "bitcoins" as your currency. Enter the amount and bitcoin address from Silk Road (find that on your SR account page--looks like this: 1GDGgeTfNrxdhmJokSP7EqVRZGXSFuSnfp)
-- If you have 5.67 bitcoins with Mt. Gox, transfer 5.66 to cover the transaction fee. Select the option for faster transfer (0.005 BTC).
-- It may take several hours for your bitcoins to show up, but they will. Once they are in your SR wallet, you're ready to order.
I hope this helps. This is the fastest, most reliable way that I've found to get bitcoins. If you bank with a major financial institution, you also have the option of transfering funds directly to BitInstant. While this doesn't involve leaving the house and taking out cash, I'm not sure if it's any slower than using a MoneyGram. One drawback to this method is that you have to provide BitInstant with your banking username and password (scary!) BitInstant is reputable, but that is just information that I don't want to release.
Let me know if you have questions or problems. I discovered Silk Road less than two weeks ago and spent an evening teaching myself all about Tor browsers, bitcoins, PGP, and everything else. It takes some doing, but it is worth it. Read the feedback, forums, encrypt your address, and don't FE. (Download Portable PGP at http://ppgp.sourceforge.net/, which has a very user-friendly interface.) While address encryption is not strictly necessary, it adds an extra layer of security to your purchase. I've had three flawless transactions and I couldn't be happier.

GETTING TO 50
-
Depositing bitcoins the other day took ages. Like at least 12+ hours. So be patient, if it doesn't come within a day, I'd be concerned.
-
I'm a n00b and I'm just wondering if I have a rough idea of the process somewhat right...
1. Start bitcoin wallet and use wallet address to move funds in and out of
2. Find a way to get bitcoins to wallet from cash
3. Send bitcoins from wallet to SR account
4. Purchase and done?
-
the time can vary depending on the service you use
