Rumor mill / Re: HELP!! Deposit into SR not showing
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:37 pm »
Don't worry -- I know that is easier said than done, but this has happened before and will happen again.  DPR is aware of the issue and will, just as he always has, fix it as quickly as possible.  The good news and important thing to remember in these cases is that EVERYONE ALWAYS RECEIVES THEIR BTC!  So, as worrisome as it is when you experience a delay, you can still take comfort in that.  :)

thanks for clearing that up guys. but how about as Im watching the cost of my shopping cart keep going up in the price of bitcoins.. whats gonna happen if when i recieve my coins, i do not have enough since the price per bitcoin increased.

Then you would need to deposit more bitcoins.  SR isn't in any way responsible for - or in control of - the volatility of the bitcoin market.

Silk Road discussion / Re: under attack again
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:33 pm »
The site seems to have more bugs than ever before, BUT IT'S FUNCTIONAL! So who's complaining?

But really, does anyone know why the site has been buggy? I mean I've never been logged out so many times. On top of that the captcha is merely 3 numbers, instead of the 4 letter 2-3 number captcha we're used to. Am I just being paranoid, or is that weird?

For those who have been here for several months, that 3-character captcha is not as worrying because we've seen it happen before without consequence.  It's just a weird little glitch, but it's not dangerous.  If you refresh the login page, you'll get a captcha of normal length.  As long as the url is correct (silkroadvb5piz3r.onion) and you are not being asked for your PIN, then you're fine.

Also - before anyone brings it up here (as it's already all over the forums) - YES, there are delays in bitcoin deposits!

DPR is aware of these issues.

I reported this to DPR for you when you first mentioned it, but let me pass it along to him again.  Don't worry, either Vendor Support or DPR himself will get it straightened out.

It's a Rambo thing.  :D

As I said, I have the utmost faith in SR and staff, DPR, and the admins. I had posted in the tech support thread before reviewing through here and reading you and Libertas state that this is a more common issue and has happened plenty of times during the lifetime of SR. So I am no longer that concerned and understand your explanation, and appreciate the reassurance. I assume that yes, people are just concerned with the coins being in virtual limbo, and me being a relative "noob" myself I can understand but again, grasp completely what you say is going on.  Also, I know that SR is in no way responsible for the exchange rate, nor am I complaining just had a concern mentioned I didnt really think of. I will wait patiently for the coins to arrive and utilize SR to the fullest when possible  8). LONG LIVE THE ROAD!

I understand the panic and fear involved whenever you are moving coins around - particularly when there are unforeseen delays on either end.  That concern is totally normal and to be expected, for sure!  My point though in all of this is that DPR is aware of the issue, these delays have been periodically occurring the last several month with the strains on the servers from all of the new traffic/members, sometimes the delays resolve on their own, sometimes DPR and staff have to push them through manually, and EVERYONE WILL RECEIVE THEIR COINS!  That's the nice thing about the bitcoin system - coins/transactions are never really "lost" and blockchain provides proof of every transaction.

So, because of that, everyone should try to hang in there and understand that their coins WILL make it to their wallets, even if it takes longer than usual, or longer than it should!

We're all in the same boat here.  If DPR himself were to make a deposit, he, too, would be suffering the same delays.

Yes, everyone is having the same issue with delays.  You will all receive your coins, and DPR is aware of the issue so I am sure he will get it taken care of as quickly as he is able.  Otherwise, sometimes there are just unexplained delays that resolve on their own.

953
perhaps a stricter set of FE rules needs to be set?  60-90 days of positive transactions and longer hold out time on the 500...   i dont know...  and or just stick with the trusted old vendors??   :(

This wouldn't prevent scammers from scamming.  SR has always, always, always warned about the dangers of finalizing early.  The escrow system is in place to offer protection to vendors and buyers -- when someone finalizes early and chooses to leave the escrow system, they are in effect choosing to forgo that protection.

Stay in escrow, do not finalize early, and you won't be scammed like this!  Or, if you are somehow scammed, at least by staying within escrow you can go to the resolution center and receive a refund.

Security / Re: BTC stolen from SR account
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:09 pm »
Your old address is still associated with your account, so you should still see the bitcoins.  If it doesn't happen automatically, then you'll need SR Support to push it through manually.

No, there hasn't been an explanation, but this has been a common issue periodically throughout the last few months - delays both in and out of SR.  Everyone always receives their coins, even when it takes longer than it should, and even when SR Support has to push the transactions through manually.

Remember, this is not a simple wallet to wallet transfer here - there is also coin tumbling involved, which makes that system more complex and introduces possible delays when it's not functioning correctly.

The situation will resolve itself - or at least it usually does.  If not, still no need to worry because DPR is aware of the delays and will get things fixed.

955
This is a genuine concern, and one I didn't first think of when this issue arose. The price of BTC has dropped by $10 since I purchased and transferred. Let's hope it stays stable for the next day or so  :-\

No one complains about the delays when the price is rising.  You're not losing money - you are still receiving the same amount of BTC that you sent - SR is obviously not responsible for the exchange rate volatility, nor is there any way to predict it.  Also, SR uses Mt Gox 24 hour average - which means it is slightly less volatile than if it were using the last rate.

Nonetheless, there's nothing we can do on our end to speed it up.  DPR is aware of the delays, and I'm sure he'll get it fixed.  In the meantime, try to be patient and know that everyone ALWAYS receives their bitcoins, even if it means support having to push the transactions through manually.

As for the suggestion that we give a warning - none of us know that there is going to be a delay.  We only know when people start reporting it, so there is no way to issue a preemptive warning.

However, again, delays going in and out of SR wallets is a common issue even when the site is NOT under attack, so please keep that in mind in the future when you're transferring coins in and out.  Always leave enough time for any possible delays that might arise.

That's what I'm saying - we're back up, but as DPR stated we are not yet out of the woods .... which means the security measures put in place due to the attacks are still in place and might be slowing things down.

957
Just wanted to add in and state my concern, I already posted a thread in tech support that Libertas had responded to and reading through this thread has given me a bit more information. It's concerning that so many people are having issues and if it comes to them having to be pushed through manually I hope its something the SR staff can handle. In the mean time, I have faith that the coins will come through and dont have a reason to doubt the SR admins and staff in this matter.

This is baffling to me because this is being posted in the main forums, where I would think most people who were able to post had been around for the past several weeks if not several months ... so why are people reacting as though this has never happened before?  Delays with withdrawals and deposits are COMMON on SR.  Especially these last few months.  It happens all the time and people post thread after thread about it.

Why is it that this time, people don't seem to realize this has been happening periodically for the past few months?

It's not concerning and it's not something SR can't handle.  This has happened before and it's disconcerting when you're waiting for the deposit, yes, but every time this has happened, everyone has received their coins - even if it has taken longer than usual, or longer than it should.  EVERYONE ALWAYS RECEIVES THEIR COINS.  So, please, be patient and if you haven't received your coins WITHIN 24 hours, send a message to SR Support on the main site.

There are many times when SR Support DOES have to push the transactions manually.

Remember, this is not just a simple transaction from one wallet to another - there is a coin tumbler involved here as well.

But you know the site has been under attack and down ... and if you have been keeping up with DPR's updates, then you know we aren't yet out of the woods from the attacks.  Knowing that, hopefully you can understand why things aren't back at 100% quite yet!

I made a deposit today and the coins were hijacked before ever making it to SR. I can see the accounts that are currently receiving the funds on blockchain.info, but the account history here shows they never made it. This seems to me like SR has somehow been compromised from the inside since how else could some initiate the transfer of them except from the destination account number?

Your coins were NOT "hijacked" - what you are seeing on blockchain is SR's built-in coin tumbler in action.  :-\

SR has NOT been compromised - this is NORMAL BEHAVIOR for incoming btc deposits except that there is also a delay today.

Security / Re: BTC stolen from SR account

I made a deposit of coins to my SR account today. BlockChain.info shows that seconds after they reached 13 confirmations they were transferred elsewhere. SR shows no history of the money ever arriving. How do I address this? Has SR been compromised from the inside? How could SR not show the funds ever arriving at all?

This just so happens to have been:

a) the largest transfer I've ever made at once
b) urgent in that the seller is going on vacation and I needed to get order in today

How could someone have pulled this off without the coins ever appearing in SR?

No, SR has not been compromised.  What you're seeing on blockchain is SR's coin tumbler in action mixing your coins for increased anonymity.  There is also some delay with deposits at the moment, so things are taking longer than usual.  If you haven't received the coins within the next 12 hours or so, you can send a message to SR Support and they will look into it.  However, this seems to be a site-wide issue at the moment.
