To be fair, Mt Gox apparently never registered with FinCEN as a MSB.  Stupid stupid stupid mistake on their part - especially considering the size of their business.  Idiots.

Keep your receipt, and your MP cards.  You can make a claim.

It's really unlikely that GreenDot would give anyone in this situation any of their funds back.  After all, you willingly provided your MP code to someone ... which they warn against.

Please be sure to get in touch with SR Support just to be absolutely sure that this wasn't some kind of glitch they can fix for you.

Here is a link to the SR wiki -- I'd encourage you to read through it prior to placing an order.  Two most important things: encrypt your sensitive info (shipping address) and stay in escrow!

Security / Re: Ex-GF stole computer and is blackmailing
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:04 am »
My psycho ex-girlfriend stole my computer that I have been conducting SR business on for almost a year now and she has had it for a week and a half. The only program I have is TOR and she is extorting me every day saying she is going to "turn it in". Should I be worried? My house is clean and I am getting out of the game.

If the browser bundle is literally the only thing on it, no bookmarks to SR, no text files with URLs or passwords, then that proves nothing.

Even if there is a bookmark, that's something that good draw LE attention to watch you, but you couldn't be prosecuted for it. There are journalists and probably thousands of curious people who create SR accounts and don't buy anything. It's not illegal to browse the site.

Tell her to give it back or you'll call the cops and report her for theft.

^ this!

please do not sneak your grandpa pot brownies .... it could be really scary for him.  :(

EDIT:

also, if he already eats mostly sweets and doesn't "eat well" i don't think the munchies from pot brownies are going to improve anything!  he's just going to want to keep eating more sweets!

Several people have reported being scammed by him, so I've reported him to staff so they can look into it.  I looked at his profile earlier today and found the feedback somewhat sketchy considering the fact that he's so new yet it shows 42 transactions and all of the positive feedback looks the same as far as text formatting ...

I'm confused - I thought edar = joolz ...

Also, it's important to note that a vendor asking people to FE is not always proof of that vendor being a scammer.  Granted, no one should be finalizing until they have received their order and are happy with it, but a vendor simply asking people to FE doesn't mean that they are necessarily scamming.

Unless there's something else to the story other than the vendor requesting FE?

While I agree that asking for FE is not necessarily a sign of a scammer,   I believe it is against the rules to request FE before you have 35 completed illicit transactions and it does not seem like a good sign for a new vendor to be breaking the rules already.

That's absolutely correct (and I'm sorry for not realizing they were a new vendor!).  However, staff won't / can't ban a vendor until they have proof that the vendor in question is truly scamming people.

Still, if it is a new vendor with less than 35 transactions, DEFINITELY report the fact that they are asking you to FE in spite of it saying specifically in the Seller Guide that they are not permitted to request early finalization.

I reported this vendor recently (and hopefully you all have too!) so hopefully staff can look into things and see if there is enough proof available to shut them down.

Security / Re: Private messaging vendors
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:05 pm »
When private messaging vendors on SR, are all the messages encrypted? Or how does it work?

Thank you

If it's sensitive, such as shipping address or information, then encrypt it. For all else normal text is fine. The rule I use on deciding whether to encrypt is if I feel I wouldn't want LEA to see it, I encrypt it.

That's great advice, and kind of what I follow as well.
