Interesting. And what exactly was this "personal tragedy" that has befallen you, Mr. Blower?

based on his post, I would guess one of his parents passed away.  (though whether or not this is true or just another lie, who knows.)

I just figured it was a new vendor on the road trying to build up their stats before they went on to sell some items.

Yep, this is my understanding of what MedicineWoman was doing.

78
however Medicinewoman herself states that buyers still provide that info...although she "ignores" it...

to be fair though, vendors can't force people to read their listing description, and also can't force people to be smart.  some buyers don't read anything and then don't think, and end up putting their info.  i've heard of buyers providing their name, address, email, and PHONE NUMBER to vendors, unencrypted, for digital items!  so ... i don't think we can blame any vendor for what info they end up receiving from buyers who don't know better.

also, i appreciate that you're trying to warn people to help keep them safe.  that's noble.  but just because we are on the "darknet" doesn't mean that the marketplace is devoid of selflessness.  my best guess is that she's providing the info for free for the benefit of the marketplace.  plus, she mentions that people who are interested in a guide about obtaining bitcoins are probably not going to have bitcoins already ... so it might technically be pretty difficult for her to actually sell the guide.

even as a moderator, i've received PMs with people sending their info for whatever reason.

As MedicineWoman has already pointed out, there's no way to edit anything in the SR ordering process as far as the vendor is concerned.  She specifically states on her listing (and yes, this was there even before this thread and its accusations were levied):

Quote
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I DO NOT NEED OR WANT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION WHEN ORDERING!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Road doesn't allow me to omit the "Shipping Address" box when customers place orders. So, simply insert a random string in that box. Do NOT give me your address, as this item is a digital download. And I sure don't need or want your email address.

Its not in transit

So it's still in "processing" status?  If that's the case, you should be able to simply cancel the order after 4 days.

Can you be more specific?  What does she advise in her guide?

I'm getting this info from a reviewer of her guide who was alarmed at this advice...the review is here...

Third review from the top...fourth paragraph down...

Topper...

Okay, but could it be that she's advising accessing a site like Mt Gox or something where logging in via Tor will lock you out of your account?

Hopefully people would know better than to access a link outside of the protection afforded by Tor.

Yes...hopefully...but that is exactly what medicinewoman instructs readers of her "guide" to do...

It makes perfect sense if you are trying to infiltrate Silk Road...

you pose as a vendor to get as many real names and addresses as possible...and then steer them to a website off of tor...which means you instantly snag their physical IP address...

At that point it is a simple matter to connect the dots...in order to log into tor you must go through your local IP...if someone already knows the name of the user and their local IP ...they can force the ISP to give them all the records of when that user has accessed tor...

They could even install a keystroke worm on your computer and get your SR usernames...passwords...transactions...etc...

EXTREME CAUTION...THIS DOES NOT PASS THE SMELL TEST...

Hopefully people would know better than to access a link outside of the protection afforded by Tor.

Sorry, there's no way to "undo" the finalization.  :(

I have an order with a vendor who was apparently stripped of his vending (frankmatthews) rights please can this be canceled.

Did you stay in escrow?  If so, just click on the "resolve" link when it becomes available to you.  It will take it to the Resolution Center where you can request your refund.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Vendor disappeared?!

How are people getting burned if they aren't FEing? I think.. literally... that is the ONLY 1 thing you have to remember. Is to not FE. It is beyond me how people are still FEing ever, for anything, for anyone, ever, under any circumstances, (did I mention ever)?

Agreed.  (but you should really consider emphasizing the NEVER EVER EVER point)  ;)

Wtf would compel Frank to do that? Strange. And if he asked the OP to do it.. I'm sure he's done it in the past. Unless.. he's was preparing to ... pull a runner.

That's a totally egregious violation of the rules. I hate that shit. In my opinion, all it takes is just once, and the best vendor on the planet would lose my trust/confidence/respect for trying to circumvent escrow.

What's even more strange is that he did it in cleartext through messages on the marketplace and not through PGP or privnote. :o

I found it strange that on his vendor profile he advised people to use Privnote instead of PGP.

I know I didn't start off on the right foot with doubt but if you'd like a detailed review of anything let me know. I don't mind paying for it. I like to smooth out karma wrinkles you know. =)

**Random thought: Wouldn't it be insane to see the exact amount of party favors bought and sold over the years. I wonder if anyone has a legitimate logbook IRL? I've got trip reports in journals but not all posted. hrrrm.

Edit: Very few people like tripe (sheep stomach) ugh

Prospective vendors are permitted to offer free samples, but they are NOT permitted to charge for ANY PART of the free sample, so please do not offer to pay for any part of it.  The OP does not have a vendor account and has been seen throughout the forums asking for people to help fund an account.  If he accepts any payment for these "free samples" then he gets one warning before his forum account is deleted.

To reiterate - no one should ever agree to send funds directly to a vendor in order to bypass escrow.
