Newbie discussion / Re: Probably phished, what should I do?
« on: June 09, 2013, 04:34 am »
Uh oh, this is serious. The instructions at http://silkroaddrugs.wordpress.com/ point to the phishing address. Admins/Moderators, can you check this out ASAP???

That site is not associated with Silk Road, so there is nothing we can do about what link they provide - they provide a phishing link, likely intentionally.

Fuckers. The version of the Tor Browser I downloaded from their link is probably malware too.

That is HIGHLY likely.  Why would you download Tor Browser Bundle from any website other than the official Tor Project site?

Well the link is https://www.torproject.org/download/ so I figured it was safe because of https. I'll format the computer anyway, just to be safe.

That's the correct link for the official tor page ...

You can't delete the account, but you can start a new one ...

UPDATE: SR Support is awesome! They've returned the coins!

Very nice!  I suspect it's due to how quickly they were able to lock down his account ... it allowed them to redistribute to some buyers who had finalized early.  :)

So newbies cant post in any of the other topics?

That's correct.  You need 50 posts in the Newbie subforum before you can post elsewhere.

53
Okay, well, I'll lock this thread as resolved now, since we know what happened and hopefully how to avoid it in the future.  Best of luck to you!

So what about to warn the User at the Original Login-Page about that Phishing-Methods???

If the user was at the original login page, then they wouldn't need a warning about phishing sites.  Plus, there are already several warnings in the forum and in the wiki against providing your PIN at login.

Newbie discussion / Re: ? Time for bitcoins to transfer?

Usually around 1-2 hours, and at least 6 network confirmations.

There is already a FAQ stickied in the Customer Support subforum:  http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=133191.0

OK. Thanks all. I remeber a phising Site with a PIN requering Site. That Site, i remember, was a Link from some kind of WIKI. That was the first Time using SR and i was confused about all the information about TOR, onion and so one.... I understand that correctly? The Phishers go from account to account and Look for credit in accounts?

So now i change my Pass and my PIN of course. Anything else to do for precaution?

Yes, the Hidden Wiki link is to a phishing site, which is what I was saying earlier.

Yes, change your password and PIN, and make sure that both are strong.  Silk Road will never ask for your PIN at login.

Also make sure you only access it from the correct url:

silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

Sorry, but that kind of "service" is not allowed here.

Common? Probably not, but I wouldn't get worried about 6 days.  Two weeks is when I would contact the vendor maybe, or just hold tight until 16 days (1 before auto-finalization).

Yikes.  I appreciate that you're trying to help, but it's often a bad idea to wait until the day before it autofinalizes before you do something about an order that hasn't arrived.  What happens if SR is down or has a technical issue then?  Then it autofinalizes on you, counts against your buyer stats, and there's nothing you or SR Support can do to get your coins back.

so i ordered my stuff MAY 31st from a top % vendor... it was shipped JUNE 3RD. and has been "in transit" ever since. Is this common or am i being jerked around? this is my first order on SR.

Your order will remain "in transit" until you manually finalize the order after receiving it.

yes i understand that, and thank you for the reply. but what i am asking is, is it common for it to take that long for it to arrive? i am in a big city and its domestic

sorry for misunderstanding the question - i thought maybe you expected it to change from "in transit" to something else automatically.

anyway, i don't think you need to worry yet for a few reasons:

1.  just because the vendor marked it 'in transit' 6 days ago doesn't mean that he actually put your order in the mail that same day.  some vendors mark it in transit after they've gotten it packaged up and ready to go, but then don't actually send it that same day.

2.  unless they're shipping via Express Mail, then it's not unreasonable for it to take a week or so to reach you.

what you can do, if you don't receive it in the next few days, is click on "resolve" when that option becomes available to you -- that will just extend the finalization date and give it more time to arrive.
