-
Just watching it :o lol

Link to the video?
Also lol @ "Dead Pirate Roberts".
-
We're famous!
Few thoughts:
"Channel 4 News bought 3.5g of MDMA and one gram of opium." Couldn't they have just ordered 1g!? Someone's having a good weekend!
"Lee Miles, head of cyber for the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca), said: "Online environments which appear to offer anonymity for criminals are a key priority for the National Crime Agency, which goes live on 7 October." Uhhhhhhm?
"Silk Road's owner, who uses the hacker name Dead Pirate Roberts" Hacker name?! Dead?! Idiots...
-
Calling him "DEAD pirate roberts" is their form of psy-ops.
And what's all this National Crime Agency talk of prioritizing "Online environments which appear to offer anonymity for criminals." Go away. Leave us alone.
-
"Criminals might think they can hide their activities in the dark web, but the new National Crime Agency will be working to shine a light into even its darkest corners and catch more abusers."
Pot... Kettle ?
-
Link to the video?
Please my American friends, someone has to capture that.
I agree with it being intention to call him Dead instead of Dread. Not even those premium journalists are that stupid.
-
All Anchor's today remind me of the Tom Grunick character in the movie Broadcast News. When they try to ad-lib something it really shows. For example, watching CNN after the Navy yard shooting John King turns to Anderson Cooper and explains "The suspect used a cartridge called "buckshot" in his high powered fast reloading pump action 870 Remington. This is the type of heavy duty ammunition used by hunters for big game, Deer, Bear, ect." LOL
Not impressed John.
-
Yeeess... Interesting interplay there between Guru-Murthy's attempts to sensationalise the piece to near 'The Day Today' levels and Dr Winstock trying to bring the tone down toward simple sensible reality.

As seen on TV, I'm still rolling, and not because of MDMA.

Looking this one up. Thanks for the URL.

He's a convicted drug dealer speaking about his past experiences which are already fully documented in the case again him. So I don't think he has much more to worry about.

Thanks for pointing that out.

LOL at this thread

just read some great news in one the the related stories at the bottom of the page.
Budget cuts to internet crime officers
The committee said it had been told by Adrian Leppard, deputy assistant commissioner at the City of London Police, that up to a quarter of the UK's 800 specialist internet crime officers could be lost due to budget cuts.

That fuckin Ryan West. He was all over our Aussie news selling his story like he a champion. Yeh, he got caught but why fuck it up for others by talking about it openly...
-
you know these forums really need a huge sticky in the noob forum telling people that if they get caught on the street with the drugs they bought of sr, that they should absolutely never tell the cops they bought them off the road.
like the guy was saying in the video, only about 14% of drug users are buying online and its a minimal problem really. but the more idiots keep blabbing their mouths off to the cops about where they got them here, the worse the cops will see the problem.
ffs people, if you get caught in possession then just tell the cops you bought it of some random guy in a club or street corner somewhere. it does nothing at all what so ever to help your defense to tell the cops you bought off the road. in fact if they look at your computer and see that you've ordered from abroad then you could even face an importation charge.
the less the cops hear from users they arrest that they bought off the road, the less of an over all problem they are going to see it as. which means the less resources are going to go into combating it.

I haven't watched the video in that report yet but please tell me they didn't use the Ryan West story as part of their report?
The journo who did that report actually messaged me last week asking if he could interview me, urm no thanks mate!

what do you think of my suggestion just now? ..the more and more the cops on the street keep getting reports that drug offenders are obtaining from here, the more resources are going to get thrown at us. the longer they keep thinking it is just a very small minority of users here, the more likely they will keep targeting their resources at the street trade.

SR in on the news here in Australia all the fucking time and that Ryan idiot didn't do any of us any favors thats for sure. As much as we would like to think we are some clandestine renegade group no one has heard of the reality is SR is becoming known to ever increasing numbers of people and if LE decide to make targeting this site and those who use it then I seriously doubt the small minority of people LE actually catch for SR related activity is going to be the catalyst for some major crackdown. It won't be state LE coming after us, it will be federal with all their cyber agencies concentrating their efforts.
That of course doesn't mean people should learn to keep their mouths shut, stay off national TV and get a fucking grip of themselves.

Guru Muphey is a toy hack, always has been, always will be.
-
yes but because of all the sensationalist news headlines its even more important that people shut their mouths. when someone gets stopped on the street and found in possession, then get arrested and tell the cops they bought it from sr, that is then recorded in their statement. when they go to court that is brought up during the case. this is then going to be jumped on by the court journalists and it will get splashed all over the local media. reading constant local reports like that on a regular basis will turn public opinion against us. its negative press for sr which we don't need. i'd say those reports are probably more negative for us with most people than the big sensationalist national news stories. the little stories bring it home and make people think its a problem that affects them in their own community. rather than something that really only happens mostly out in the bigger world.
-
i agree, any publicity is bad for SR. the more people hear about it the more people will want the goverments to shut it down.
did anyone in the UK see what the government announced todaY?(link below) supposedly it is only for terrorists and shit like that but still bad news. i reckon they will work on technology to crack TOR and related stuff for terrorism. once they have the technology they will surely come here....

Not so much use the story as have a long interview with him!

Indeed. Police and governments often target resources toward whatever the media is making a huge fuss about, lest they be perceived as not listening to public concerns. Over here that often leads to what's termed 'kneejerk legislation' and the like. Sustained publicity could put greater pressure on governments to do 'something' ("for anything is better than nothing") and even if that proves ineffective against SR it would provide further excuses to restrict the freedoms of their citizens. What if a little baby managed to kill itself with an ounce of H bought over the Dark Net? Won't somebody please think of the children?

I doubt that we have the resources to do much about that in Britain.

No problems.
Although I do wonder whether he indeed does have something to worry about, e.g. retribution from current Silk Road community in Australia who see his use of publicity has exposing them to the public and/or increasing chances that police/customs will come down harder on postal surveillance.
-
I would just add to the above conversation that the Australian federal police are already monitoring the site, Australian customs are already monitoring the border, etc. They have people/resources assigned to this (perhaps more so than the UK from what I hear). I didn't think this was a secret. It's quite clear from the media releases these federal agencies put out that they are indeed gathering intelligence from the site.
There is already community outrage in Australia re Silk Road, especially as there have been deaths (e.g. Preston Bridge in Perth) associated with Silk Road products.
My opinion on publicity is a bit different - I think the horse has bolted (at least here in Australia) and the best option is to try to positively influence publicity rather than just pretend it won't happen. This is where some of my research with Adam Winstock (which he describes on the Channel 4 piece) is useful as it does not sensationalise, just describes how the trends in e-commerce are now apparent in drug markets, and how some of the drivers of online drug buying can be traced back to prohibition, and questions whether such a policy is making lives better or worse for people.
-
It's still hasn't made much mass media coverage over here in Britain yet, so I think it probably better to try to keep the low profile here. Once stories start getting plastered over the front pages of the tabloids, though, that game will be up.

We rotate 4 "styles" of packaging, depending on product, every 10 days with logo and color alterations on each rotation. They ordered over a month ago I think now, so packages have changed a lot since then.

PM via the forums probably, that's how they contacted me anyway.
No mine was on the main site. He wanted to ask me about Atlantis in particular. I've never been on Atlantis in my life though.
I notice that the voice of the atlantis spokesperson on the news report seems to have an Irish accent too. Starting to wonder if this guy put 2+2 together and got one million.
