Title: May I use Silkroad as a laundry?
Post by: SPearson on September 05, 2013, 06:36 am
Hi

I love what you are doing and I think Silkroad makes the world a better, freer and more peaceful place. But I am not really into this drug stuff and I am not currently buying or selling anything on Silk Road. I am, however, using Silk Road to launder bitcoins. Is that ok? I wouldn't mind if I had to pay a little for this service, currently I am only paying the transaction fees, I believe.

Regards,
-

Moving your coins in and out of your SR account does not cost you any transaction fees.

He is probably refering to network transaction fees, ie, 0.0001BTC or w/e

My (limited) understanding is that you would never want a link between you and SR, as transferring money to a SR wallet is likely a criminal offense (conspiracy/intent).  The process of tumbling bitcoins without incurring an additional fee means that there's a potential to track movement between wallets, since X amount goes in and the same X amount comes out after being tumbled.  Supposedly there are known SR wallets used for tumbling that have had large numbers of bitcoins tumbled through them, presumably by LE who have tracked tumbling movements with their own bitcoins.  I don't pretend to know the complexities of SR's tumbling system, but would never advise transferring directly from a wallet associated with your name/bank account.

There are tumbling services that include a small, inconsistent fee between 1-3% that may better serve your needs.  Search around here on the forum to find out people's experience with them before you pick one. (That wasn't aimed at ChemCat, just saying do your research)

Absolutely.

If one cannot do as such...then possibly they don't need to be here...Period.

I could go on and on about this...but i won't.

Peace & Hugs to you All  8)

I think OP was interesting in whether Dread Pirate Roberts and the other admins thought that it was fair to use Silk Road for this.

If any one has any more information on whether Silk Road is a good bitcoin laundry and on the safety on sending and receiving from bitcoins, I would love to hear that as well.

The buying and selling of btc is a not a criminal offense. The only two ways it would be if it is a large sum of $$ that draws the governments attention, and/or if it can be linked to an actual SR transaction. Granted being linked to sr would raise some eyebrows but if you study the history of btc blockchains many of them have had some dealings with SR at some point.
