New to this site and area of the web. Please direct me to how I can learn/understand the use of bitcoins so I can attempt to become active here. Thank you.

I would also recommend you invest plenty of time reading these forums, lots of information here on how to get set up and navigate this site safely.
Buying bitcoins will depend a lot of where you are, have a read and report back with any unanswered questions you may have.
