Yes apparently Google spiders can index hidden sites through onion.to and services like this ^. I just found this out a few days ago. But you probably shouldn't be searching for heroin anything on your phone. Mobile digital communication is highly traceable. Better to play it safe

ya it was just for some random info i was curiousabout haha nothing incrimanting jus educating myself. seen the onion.to but nne of the others
-
Just don't do those kind of searches with Google, you are playing a risky game doing that via clear net.
-
Yeah google has been crawling SR for a while, manly through onion.to.
I was really shocked when I first saw it too - you can find most of SR on google through it. Dont get me wrong, i'm not using the service but once I found one I thought i'd see just how deep the rabbit hole went. Scary right? Seems pretty wrong to me.
Who is actually behind this whole onion.to thing, anyway?

No idea who behind onion.to but it is a shocker idea. It runs faster but should not be used at all. And yes, you can actually see more from an onion site through it than a regular forum on clearnet. Why have Tor in the first place? I've never liked it. I like the green screen but that's pretty much it.

Crazy thing is, part of its success in google is the sheer amount of people using it, isnt it? I see it more and more in my search results - above all the other, legit listings. It comes before news articles about SR, and ive also managed to find it searching for random drugs like the OP.
I'd be extremely interested to know what volume of the SR traffic is actually coming through that piece of shit these days. Its lazy, computer illiterate people wanting quick access to silk road. Who can blame them though? Imagine their shock and excitement when they do a google search for their drug of choice, and instead of finding information or discussion about it - they find a link to purchase it.
And we wonder why SR runs slower than other hidden services ::)

Mmm, possibly sheer amount using it b/c of all the people on clearnet who have not downloaded TBB and wish to 'peak'. I hope no one on Silk Road uses it. As SR gains popularity there will be more and more people like this, rather than genuine users who use it the proper way to buy off the marketplace. So yeah, it will be bumped up in the search results.
I wonder the same thing -- too many of the wrong type know about Silk Road. Reddit.... c'mon. ::) More and more people will come to the site off onion.to as they are either unaware or undisciplined. Yep -- million dollar question. What percentage of SR users are onion.to users? Only going to grow over time.

(PS I have a fast connection! :) Spent more but worth it.)

You're so right - it will grow over time, unless someone or some organisation eliminates it - which of course isn't likely. Calling all DDos'ers.. ! haha.
What I really take issue with, is the fact they're making money from it - and probably a substantial amount via advertising. Its full of ads, and it also asks for donations in the side bar of every page. "Gateway to Tor" - please. Tor its self is a gateway - how can you have a gateway to a gateway?!
PS - kudos for investing in a speedier connection. I'm not the tetchiest person around here so i'm just chugging along at a regular pace - It certainly seems faster these days around here though.... unless i've just gotten used to it 8)

onion.to is owned by a Swedish IT security company by the name of Xxor. if you want a little idea of how many people are logging into sr through onion.to, just type onion.to in google and look at the second link.

Thanks for the info.
And wow, you're right. Although it does stand to reason that it would be the top visited site via .to, as SR is probably the highest on Tor, too. What i'd really like to know is the actual number of clicks through google. I dont think you can find this out without owning the site though, right?

no, we cannot know the clicks.
something to be aware of though is that Xxor has access to everyones username and password that has logged in through onion.to

Yeah, I really need a fast connection so lashed out, expensive as phuc, but it's lightning quick. >:D
I have a problem with the 'Donations' at the right side of screen on onion.to as well. They are collecting our information, which is immediately compromised, and they are asking us for donations for helping us go to prison. Not on my watch. You realise they will happily hand over our IP and passwords to LE if asked to, right? TheTorProject asks for donations but at least they do their job.

I remember the address to SR in my head, but I've never prioritized to remember the address to the forum in my head because I didn't think it was to necessary. So I've just googled it and used the http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion without using the .to ending. Should I memorize the silkroad forum address to or would it be safe to do it how I've done it until now?

If you can memorize it all, more power to you. I just log into SR and click on the forum link from there.

I'm sure some idiot (or naive person) has probably tried or succeeded to place an order via one of those services. I would hope if you make the effort to get coins and all that that you would find out that maybe its a bad idea.
But some people are just not that bright....

No, do not google 'silk road forums', while bookmarking is not the safest option you could choose it is better than googling it. Don't google 'silk road' either.

It's really not as risky as people think it is. It's not illegal to search for these things.

If it was really not as risky as people think it is, we wouldn't bother taking the precautions. The last thing you want is a digital footprint revealing you have Googled 'silk road' or 'silk road forums' 500 times, they're not dumb, they will figure out very quickly why someone would have reason to search for it repeatedly. Once or twice is forgivable but every time you log on to the forums? Not a good idea.
Same argument with bitcoins. How many times have I heard someone say, "buying bitcoins is totally legal" and then argue that there's no need to use any buffers between purchasing and dumping them into their SR acc./s without a condom as it were.
Bottom line. Don't do it or you'll significantly increase your chances of being caught.

Agreed, I meant what I stated within reason, of course.

Does anyone have an example of a search that actually returned a silk road URL? Or actual content from SR (not just a link to it)?
I mean I have seen many clearnet sites with links to SR in Google's results but have never seen a .onion link.
If google is starting to index all of our forums and display these results as regular links that would be a bit more concerning to me than it just finding SR related business on the clearnet.
