Title: forgot to mark shipments in transit, transaction is gone becuase buyer cancelled
Post by: uhrwerk on April 04, 2013, 10:25 am
hi,
I am a german based new vendor, who opened his account last friday for 24h.
After that, I needed to go on a trip, which will last until next tuesday/wednesday. I just returned for a day but need to leave again tomorrow
I offered ten free samples of an afghan hash. I was astonished to see them gone within two-three hours.
Also, people ordered regular listings straight away although I lack an established account.
I didnt expect the 16 orders that were placed with me but did everything I could to get them into the postoffice on saturday, because I promised I would get my orders out within 24h.
I am aware of the fact that sometimes, it is not possible to succeed in getting them out within 24h because thing get in the way IRL, but I did.
As these were my first shipment as a vendor ever, and I was very short on time, I forgot to mark the orders "in transit" but had all of the orders out on saturday.
announcing my absence, and announcing the bank holiday (easter monday in germany, everything is closed), I was surprised today to see that three of the free samples cancelled the order, and one customer, who ordered 100g of the afghan, cancelled too.
Now. with the BTC rising that fast, I dont mind having exposed escrow cost me 50% of the transfer volume (which current was roughly 65-70EUR, now is 100EUR) but the fact that it arrived yesterday (I used tracking) and not having one trace of this transaction at hand is frustrating. For me, the transaction is just non-existing.
Also, the roughly 10-15 bucks per package I spent for the free samples (product, packaging, shipping cost and stealth, non accounting for the working hours I spent preparing those) are gone in three cases, too, in terms of feedback for me.

Of course it is my fault for not having marked the transfers "in transit" but there is no mentioning it in the sellers guide that there is a time frame and I thought it is more important that the buyers get their material as fast as possible.
When talking to a friend this morning, he mentioned that he waited for some orders >1week before they were marked "in transit", so that wasnt helpful either.

My question is:
What is the correct and site-rules- conform behavior on my side now ? I dont want the site to not get their share of the transfer but want the money I sent product for;  so a personal approach with a simple money transfer from one account to another out of escrow is not an option I reckon.
Please help me, I just started to fly and want to get better at this. I did everything a buyer could ask for but need help now..

You can talk to your customers, if they received the product, and they're decent people, they should stump up the cash. If any are willing to you can create a listing for them to do it through, that way you'll get feedback. However, you may just need to chalk this up as a learning experience :) If the guy who ordered the 100g's doesn't pay he's an asshole.

I think the lesson is ship and mark as 'in transit' within the 4 day window you have before the buyer can cancel the order otherwise you leave yourself wide open to this happening I'm afraid.

Thanks
@Aussie bob, what you say is that the payment now is optional ? Thats not really satisfying for me, but it is much more so on the buyers side.
@samesamebutdiferent-  how could I have know it is possible for a buyer to escape the escrow ? I thought it is there to protect assets on both sides of the trade.
It is not mentioned in the sellers guide. It is known to me that after 19 days, an order is auto-finalized. (##edit: samsamebutdifferent corrected this, its 17days, not 19. my fault)
Don`t you care for some hunderts potentially lost bucks due to an abused security leak on your site and not pure stupidity because someone felt victim to a scam or finalized early?
I payed 500bucks to sell here and read all there is to read concerning transaction procedure but this is mentioned nowhere.
I think paying another 700 bucks for a "lesson to be learned" is rather unacceptable as I put the buyers needs in front of mine although I was really short on time.

So the only thing left for me is to adress the buyers honesty ?
I asked the buyer to make a proposal for the resolution of this but if this is not fruitful I am not only disappointed, I would feel betrayed by the shopping system of this site.

My feelings on the matter are irrelevant, I am simply trying to respond to your post as best I can.

The 4 day window in which a buyer cannot cancel the order is there to protect the vendor from having the very issue you have now had and I will pass on your comments regarding this not being included in the sellers guide to DPR.

I should also correct you, auto finalize is 17 days from the date the order is marked in transit not 19. This is also not a security leak.

I am sorry this happened to you and I can appreciate your feelings on the matter, my advice would be to raise your concerns with SR support and explain what happened to them also.

The main problem for me is that I gave the buyer the tracking code on saturday with the notice that it has been dropped in the mailbox but will most likely not arrive on tuesday due to the fact that monday is a bank holiday.
He is german too so that wasnt much of a surprise. It arrived on wednesday, yesterday. If the buyer has got 4 days to cancel the order, it is even possible he cancelled after receipt. I have the receipt of delivery and his signature
He also knew that I would be absent until next tuesday, and I have asked for waiting for a problem solution until I am back- the fact that I am online today is an unplanned exception to the announcement.

@samesamebutdifferent:
thanks for reading and commenting on this thread, I also think this matter is highly relevant to vendors security in general.
You mention contacting SR staff- do you mean the account on SR that sent the first PM once registered as a vendor (I dont know if its okay to post the name of the account).
I did contact that account and am awaiting further communication. If thats not the correct account I would appreciate, if you could point me towards the right direction.
I still hope the issue is to be solved amongst the buyer and me but still then, I would not like to skip on the earnings of the site with the order and still need advice how to handle the payment if the buyer cooperates.
thanks in advance.

I'm sure there are better ways but you could set up a private listing for him with the price and give him the url, tell him to purchase it and FE.  That way it's paid.

The system here obviously still has lots of flaws.

Unfortunately, if you are hoping support to help...  I have a bridge i'll post for sale real soon.
The mods seem to be nothing but SR apologists and shills.  They never seem to make any constructive reply - just support good ole SR.

Vendors should definitely read the buyers guide & the sellers guide. This time around, unfortunately, the buyer has you by the balls. Don't let it happen again. Seriously, though, you said you were surprised at how fast your stock moved. Obviously there's demand. Get back into it, start making some money, and this little snafu will be a distant memory in no time, AB.

Yeah you lost your loot brother, unless your buyer acts in good faith but unlikly. Get your order, decrypt the shipping info, copy/paste to shipping label (i hope to god people type out there labels on a stickey label using the computer) place it aside and set marked in transit, go along and pack your product and send away asap. The one rule i dont abide by is the "first send product then make in transit" for your reason exactly, but should be done within the day of marked in-transit.

After your issue the SR wiki has been updated:

Sorry you had this experience, you highlighted an issue that wasn't covered in the sellers guide, I have now passed this up and the wiki has been updated.

The SR support I previously referred to are contacted via the main site, the links are in the FAQ sticky at the top of this board.

I'm one of the people who canceled the sample. I didn't hear from you for 5 days and wanted to make other orders, the risk of something so small coming from abroad wasn't worth it with other packages going to the same drop.
I received it yesterday - loved the packaging! I couldn't work out who you were though as there was no record of it.
I'm a little annoyed that had shit hit the fan and my drop was being monitored, this order would have made the situation much worse when it should have never arrived. I wouldn't have made other orders if I couldn't cancel this/it was marked in transit.
I understand this is not entirely your fault though so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt as everything arrived as expected.
I sent you a message on SR asking what you want to do about it, I'll leave you a full review on your tread once I've sampled it.

after two weeks, the buyer :
xbossx12
still refuses to read my messages concerning his missing payment of the 100g afghan.
Due to the fact that the security breach was unpublished at the time I joined the sellers ranks, I would like to point the finger on the SR staff to compensate me for this loss.
This situation is still highly unpleasant
