Completely random occurance, browsing the forums with pretty backgrounds and nice orderly tables, when suddenly it changes to text only mode... It's somewhat difficult to sort posts/quotes etc as it is. Anyone got pointers on how to fix?

This sounds like an issue with the download cache of the forum. Websites, when connected at lower speeds, can display incomplete webpages that show plain text with no formating, and other HTML and CSS coding can be ignored by your browser in the process as it is not downloading the entire necessary script to complete the look and layout you know and love.
Try disconnecting from your tor node and/or VPN and reconnecting thru a different connection. This usually solves such problems (assuming that is what the problem is here).
