Title: Phished!
Post by: purplebirds1234 on February 21, 2013, 12:18 am
I believe my account got phished, and I would like my information back if possible, but I am really here to let SR staff know and to warn others. I believe I have good buying stats but I don't know if this is good to others.

Total transactions: 18Total spent: ฿94.29Refund rate: 0%Auto-finalize rate: 0%Member for: 3 months

Today I went to login to SR and I looked up the link on google. When I looged in it said the website had been seized by the DEA and blah blah blah. Eventually I did more research and thought maybe something was up. I found another link and logged in and it worked fine. I went to class for a couple hours and tried to login again and it simply kept failing. I know all of my information is correct, I have it written down in my safe, I even took it out and looked at it to make sure. What I believe happened is that was a phishing site and I got scammed. I was trying to find the site I got the link from again in order to post it here and warn people but I could not find it, people be ware.

I only lost .96 bitcoins, But I had a 500 dollar order that was in the process of being reshipped because of not arriving. I quickly made a new account and messaged the seller and gave him as much info as I could and told him to please ship to me. His response was "you should contact SR support too mate" so that is what I am doing,
Hopefully this seller is honorable and does not scam me just because he can seeing as though I am no long in control of my account.

SR support is there any way I can get my old account back, or even my buyer stats? If all is lost that is understandable I screwed up.

you log in to google (?!) just to look up a link to silk road? that's really stupid dude, just keep an internet shortcut on an encrypted usb drive.

have you gone through the Help Center on SR main site? it has a FAQ section, this may have already been answered.

the above link is available at the very bottom right of the SR web page.

Thank you for that link I will check it out.

Why is using goggle to find the link stupid other than getting phished? I goggle it from internet explorer not tor I did not think it would compromise me.

Cause people will post links like

http://silkroadvb5p1z3r.onion/

Then you go to it and its a clone of SR but they just steal your login info. How would you know that wasnt the real SR link just from looking at it? Pretty similar, best to get the real link from an official source and keep it on hand.

It's just completely un-necessary to do it. Not to mention that Google now has a record on one of their databases that links your real IP address with searching for Silk Road.

Keep a text file with the address in it, then encrypt the text file with PGP encryption key. (overboard) its not illegal to have the address of a web site on your computer.

Or just memorize the address...

Thanks for the information, and that link really helped I found out that I can get my passphrase back. I messed SR support and gave as much account information as possible.

It is called phishing, the degenerates are 'phishing' (fishing) for your logon information with near identical websites that steal your info. Heaps of people fall for it because these degens are extremely crafty, hell, even a few vendors have been phished here.

Treat everyone on Silk Road as if they are LE, give them no identifying information about yourself, no matter what.

I suggest you read through the Security subforum, it contains a wealth of valuable information. Some of it is bogus, but keep an eye out for posts made by respected members of the forum (high post count >500 or more)

I hope it works out for you.

edit - you may have to get to 50 posts before you are allowed to read the Security forum.

Yes I take responsibility for what happened to me. If it doesn't workout the only thing I am really losing are my stats which are nothing compared to senior members, but for a college student I feel pretty good about my stats. My real problem right now is supertrips, i ordered December 15th, he shipped December 20th, and I still have not received. After joining the forums today and reading about all of the problems people have had with supertrips I think I am shit out of luck there.
Thank you very much for the info. I am going to be on the forums more regularly now, I always thought I was smart enough before but theirs obviously a lot I don't know. I

The forums will definitely help you make a well informed decision about who to buy from.

And who not to.

I lost over $500 to scamming vendors within my first 5 purchases, simply because i didn't research them beforehand. I now consider my actions very silly and too hasty. It could have been avoided with some reading.

Some people have lost MUCH more and would consider me very lucky to have only lost 500.

Seriously mate I stopped reading your post when I read the word Google, I have nothing more to add than what others have already posted, I would seriously consider rethinking your internet security arrangements after making a search like that, only use Tor for anything SR related ever.

And super trips really? sorry if I'm coming across like I'm having a go at you but you clearly haven't done your research before ordering, super trips went into melt down late last year and took a lot of peoples coin with them then they just come back a few months later like nothing ever happened, people have very short memories on here it seems or  there are a lot of newbies not doing their homework before ordering.

If you ever need advice you can always PM established members and if you ask nicely they should impart some of their knowledge, a lot of people keep there prized info off the forums for good reason.

It takes a few month to get clued up with everything you need to know to use this place safely, there are however a wave of newbies coming on and treating it like eBay which is quite scary when you think about the risks you are taking when importing illegal drugs across international boarders.

stay safe people and invest some time on here before placing any orders.

I made that search using internet explorer and copied then pasted the link into my tor browser. Otherwise I have been very safe. Supertrips is the first to have scammed me all of my other transactions have gone very smoothly. I did not research him on the forums, but instead read tons of his reviews and noticed he was a top 1 percent of sellers, and that he had a couple thousand fans. Also when i Ordered from him he still had a rating in the upper 90's. I thought I made a very good decision and I did not know about the forums at the time.
All is well though, if i lost this 450 from Supertrips I will be pissed, but there is no sense in dwelling on the past. Need to make more money and keep going.
