Title: Why is FE bad or good?

What does finalising early do? Does it speed up the shipping process?

Please, before you do anything further on SR make sure you READ as much info on the forums as possible, I really mean that.

If you FE you release the funds to the vendor and from that point forward you will have no recourse to SR resolution center if you run into any difficulties e.g. your shipment does not arrive, what you receive is not as described etc.

The escrow system is there to protect both you and the vendor, if you go outside of escrow SR resolution cannot and will not be there to help you.

If you FE you assume all of the risk, if you choose to do that live with your decision.

No.

Official SR rules state that you should never FE. For good reason.

If your vendor wants you to FE because you're a new buyer, find a new vendor. Plenty don't ask for FE.

(always feel weird posting after staff has already answered. (Ō_o) )

Just to clarify, there are NO rules about never Finalizing Early. DPR has written a set of Guidelines (Buyer's Guidelines and Seller's Guidelines) that should be followed to prevent you making silly mistakes such as FE. Knowledge is Power. ;D The more you educate yourself on what to do and what to avoid, the safer you will be. :)
