Well, can't post in the shipping section yet, so;
How long would you say a vacuum sealed bag holds the smell of marijuana in for? I've heard it starts to leak after a few days, especially if there is heat involved. What's the longest anyone has had a pack of bud in transit for (actually dropped off, not just marked in transit) and still received? How many layers was it, if you remember?
-
I received one that was on Tour for about a week. 28g packed in 6 vacuum layers. It started to smell after I removed the 4th layer.
-
If it's double sealed, it would take twice as long to get the smell out
-
Nice, thanks for the thorough response.
Anyone else? Only shipments of weed I had were domestic and took 3 days at the most. All were double sealed and only one started to smell after I removed the first one, and that was hash.

Food grade vacuum sealing begins leaking microscopic amounts within 15 seconds. So triple seal minimum if all you're using is food grade. The shipping forum recommends higher grade packaging (I forget the name, evidently it's similar to mylar).
Also, the harder a vacuum you pull, the more it stress on the packaging, increasing the porosity.
-
Mine was in 3 layers and I couldn't smell it at all. It was a small amount though.

You can order from us & know that there will be no smell even if you didn't get a chance to open it for 12 weeks!

It will depend on the quality of the plastic being used to seal, how many layers used, how hard the vacuum is pulled, and how long it's been in there, and how much is in there.
Plastic will always have microscopic pores which allow for scents to pour out.
-
Don't forget that dog noses are like, millions of times more sensitive than yours. So if you're able to smell it by the 3rd layer (or whatever), you can bet a dog could have picked it up a few layers before that.

Lol nice NCK. I have no doubt you are professional with it. I do want to give you a chance eventually but I'm on a break until I get some extra funds together. Plus I'm pretty loyal to farmer at the moment, I just can't get away from his skush. Been eyeing pretty much all of your buds though, they all look pretty dank.
Too bad there's no way for me to try any of your buds before I buy a whole ounce ;)

Lol. Everyone, feel free to use this thread to get your post count up. I totally understand how annoying the 50 post rule is.

Depends on the number of layers. Like others have said, smells will always be found out even with dozens of layers. That's why glass is best for hiding smells.

& more poo poo!
It depends on what type of product is used . . . You could be proven wrong in using less than 6 layers, that your great grandchildren's dog would never smell if properly trained for it!

Because knowing is half the battle.

I think there are some masking substances for dog-noses connected with 2-3 layers of vacuum there's no way that dog-nose will feel it.
Anyway, for overseas shipment it can be opened even if there's no smell.
-
I read about fox piss being a good anti-dog smell (no prove seen yet). Anyone knows more, because when yes somebody could start a fox-breeding, gathering the piss and make a shit load of money

long enough to put it in a freezer if required

WOW that's pretty comforting to my paranoia lol can anyone vouch for that?

There is a thread re some dudes who do tests with different packaging methods then use a real drug dog to see if it can detect anything, normal val seal does virtually fuck all to protect against canine detection, they found cocaine permeated one layer in 15 minutes so hardly effective. Given how stinky weed is you need to be using a non permeable heat sealed layer to avoid it being detectable by dogs.
Do a search for the thread, it's a good read.

weed holds vakum forever
-
As long as it keeps on sucking it -how much shit can pass thru that material.
ps. weed is bad for u.
-
Food grade is only good for humans smelling it, a drug dog will smell through polyethylene right away. There are better grades of plastic, search for the threads, and you can come up with what works best, and what vendors use it.

Cant wait on my printer ink to get in so I can scoop from you. Ive heard nothing but great things!

it does it very well : )

anybody know if any vendor will vacuum seal triple and place a qp in a glass jar? im a lil paranoid about a qp in just plastic. id be willing to pay more for the glass jar. i figure a large flatrate box should hold a few jars to get all 4ozs

Do you guys use moisture barrier bags (mylar)?

Careful asking about and divulging shipping methods on these forums... But at any rate, shipping bud domestically within the US, one is usually sufficient with containing the smell from being detected by humans alone, and getting the package to its destination ASAP. LDPE (Polyethylene), like the foodsaver bags, has a higher rate of permeation than HDPP (Polypropylene) by a substantial rate. However, if one gets a package to the point of canine inspection imo you've fucked up already as that is unlikely to be conducted at random unless you're shipping internationally. Bud should always be vaccuum sealed at least three layers when using the commercially available LDPE vac bags, although if it gets where it needs to be quick and isn't a large quantity, such as multiple pounds, a double layer will often suffice depending on certain conditions like type of bud, smell, other packaging, and time of year. Heat volatizes the terpenes in cannabis producing a more pronounced smell. So shipping to hot areas, or during the summer is riskier with smellier items than the winter, maybe. 3M makes moisture vapor barrier bags that are used for electronic circuit boards and electronics that are multiple, impermeable metal layers that can be heat sealed and are opaque. These are the best bags imo for shipping anything a canine can detect, as they are relatively cheap and can likely stand up to canine searches if the outside is properly cleaned with alcohol or acetone, and the packaging not cross-contaminated. But in summary go with at least 6mil LDPE (foodsavers are 2mil thick, each layer), at least 4mil thick HDPP, however many layers depending on bag thickness. MBBs can be used alone even with bud, but might as well do a double or triple LDPE seal, clean it, then use a MBB that is impermeable and also opaque. Vaccuum sealing doesn't change anything but the pressure differential, and altering the shape of the material and its crystallinity by tight vaccuuming, will be detrimental to avoiding slower permeation rates.

it holds it very well. but if you planning to leave it in a vac pack for weeks then it's not a good idea. depends on the amount i suppose
