Title: Liberté linux for Mac O/S?
Post by: samesamebutdifferent on October 11, 2012, 07:44 pm
I'm currently running my Tor browser and GPG via a USB but want to ramp up my protection and wondered if there is something similar to Liberté that runs on OSX?

i just read this recently, might have been on the wiki. mac (and windows and linux) log to disk when a usb is inserted. from memory windows logs the serial number of the usb stick, but I think mac doesn't, not 100% sure.
ie if your computer hardware gets seized, LE might be able to tell if there's a usb stick missing from their inventory by checking the logs.

actually, I think linux logs to dmesg, so it might not hit the disk. but again, not 100% sure.

buy a 32g disk for $30 or whatever, and use truecrypt to install two linux OSs, a dummy that you give the password to the LE and a hidden one you deny exists.

Liberte is an OS, not a program that runs on an OS. At least thats what I think you think Liberte is. Apologies if I am mistaken.

You're much safer (imo) just making a Live CD and booting it from bios. Yeah truecrypt and USBs/virtual OS accomplish pretty much the same thing, but for me its comforting to know each time I use TSR I'm on a fresh slate. Just stash away any files you use e.g. PGP key using an unrelated Tormail address, but there really is no need if you're just buying stuff, as theres no point in signing a PGP message when filling out the address field.

Boot to liberte live USB on macbook = ultimate security? I'm using that right now.

I was trying to make a live USB for a month now and I can't. Can anyone give me some Mac tips? Also, take a look at Tails and let me know if you can make that work on a USB (Mac).

Thanks,
