Customer support / Re: Cant Login?
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:11 am »
Have you tried to access SR via a different link at all or are you using the same one you always do?

the only link you should ever use is this one: http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad

apologies if this isn't applicable to you, just trying to get a clearer understanding of your situation.

I'm afraid not.

You can post in the newbie sub forum too.

Customer support / Re: Victim of Phishing Site
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:03 am »
A lot of people have gotten burned by that site. I wish there was a way to help people who fell victim to that scam site.

What would really help is if people read the wiki and researched the forums before trying to place orders. If you have a look in the newbie sub forum you will just see the same questions being asked over and over so clearly a lot of people are not making any effort to educate themselves before steaming in. I made one order before I started using the forums when I first found SR then I researched the shit out of the place. There are a frighteningly large number of newbies stumbling around SR blindfolded seemingly incapable of educating themselves before engaging in what is a potentially very high risk activity that could fuck their lives up or deprive them of their liberty.

I just cannot fathom how some people can be so blasé about things  :-\

Customer support / Re: Resolution Center Inquiry
« on: March 07, 2013, 05:57 am »
If you are unable to work things out with the vendor and you take it to resolution then SR support will assess each case taking into consideration a number of factors.

The SR wiki states the following:

If your package never arrives or is not in the condition you expected, you may have a chance at a full or partial refund of the purchase price. Just click "resolve" next to your order. Our resolution center gives you total flexibility in working out a mutually agreeable outcome with your vendor, whether you want to request a full or partial refund, release payment to your vendor, or extend the time you wait for arrival. In the rare event that an agreement can't be made, Silk Road admins will be right there to mediate and investigate if necessary. The vast majority of orders are filled exactly as expected, but to avoid even the rare hang up, we strongly encourage you to read your vendor's feedback and ask questions of them ahead of time.

The link to the wiki for more info is: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Hope that helps mate.

Customer support / Re: Renaming Newbie Section
« on: March 07, 2013, 05:44 am »
I'm not sure I follow you, in your original post you said "I think that the Customer Support section should be called the New Member section" and now you are saying you don't see much of a link between customer support and new members??

The customer support board is for all members, new and old so it would be misleading to rename it the 'new member section' as per your initial suggestion.

Re my comments about spam if you read my previous post again you will see I was pretty clear in stating that this type of activity is for the time being tolerated in the newbie section. The point I was making was to make it clear that this is not acceptable in other areas of the forums and just because it is overlooked in one do not make the mistake of assuming it is ok elsewhere.

Does that clarify things?

Customer support / Re: Change address while getting send BTC?
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:00 pm »
Yes but it is not advisable as it can significantly slow down the deposit into your account. All your BTC addresses are linked so you will not lose the coins, it might just mean you end up waiting a lot longer to get them.

Thanks for the advice ssbd!  :)

Unfortunately, inigo didn't respond so far and I can't use the built-in tech support since this is only possible *after* logging in.

About to despair,
anderl.

You could open a new account to contact SR support making sure you include the details of your other account, there are no issues with creating new acounts.

Security / Re: BTC speculation hyper bubble
« on: March 06, 2013, 08:58 pm »
You are not alone in wondering what will happen, the price of BTC is climbing at unprecedented rates, the last few days alone has seen incredible rises, I am literally watching the balance in my SR account grow by the minute.

Right now I can only speculate that demand is driving the increase and a lot of people are holding onto their coins as the price sky rockets. For the 'bubble' to burst if indeed it is a bubble there would need to be some sort of significant event to precipitate a crash e.g. a major successful hack of coins thus causing panic and the flooding of the market as buyers sell off their coins.

Markets globally are often influenced just by perception as people speculate on what they think 'might' happen, right now the only direction seems to be up though and I can't see it slowing down anytime soon to be honest as more people clue into the potential gains to be had and hoard coins, something I admit I am now doing myself.

This is of course just my opinion and I don't have any real facts to back any of that up so anyone with a competing view feel free to shoot me down in flames  :P

From the buyers guide on the wiki:

Escrow hedge

Unfortunately, the Bitcoin exchange rate isn't as stable as we would all like it to be, and can fluctuate wildly in a matter of hours, let alone the days or weeks it takes for a package to arrive. Because of this, there is a real danger that the Bitcoins being held in your escrow account will lose value by the time your vendor gets paid or you are refunded. So, we've given the option to vendors to hedge the future payments they are expecting from escrow such that the dollar value of the payment doesn't change as the Bitcoin exchange rate changes.

For example, a seller is hedging the escrow for a 10 btc order you place with them, and the dollar value of your order when you purchase it is $100. Now, let's say your order never arrives and your vendor agrees to a full refund, but those 10 btc are no longer worth $100, they're worth $50! Because your vendor hedged the escrow, you won't get a refund of 10 btc, you'll get 20 btc equaling the original value of $100. Of course, the opposite is also true. If Bitcoins appreciate in value while your order is in escrow, your refund will be fewer Bitcoins, but still equaling the original dollar value.

When checking out, you will see which orders will be hedged and which won't. After the order is placed, your escrow balance will reflect the dollar value of your hedged orders and the Bitcoin value of your unhedged orders. All hedged orders are hedged as soon as the order is placed. So when getting a refund for hedged items, don't be surprised if the number of Bitcoins you get back is not the same as the amount you paid.

If you need the most up-to-date USD/BTC exchange rate, we recommend mtgoxlive.com.
