Can anyone see the Syrian conflict turning Syria into a sectarian nation from what you are seeing on TV now?

Wars don't boost the economy, they just provide a temporary gush of liquidity and reallocate spending decisions.

But the net economic effect is negative for sure. Wars destroy capital, that's what they do. I'm not saying people shouldn't fund the Army, because they should, but any war that is offensive is like an act of consumption. Metaphorically and also literally.

Otherwise during WWII, the UK and Germany would have had soaringly great economies with huge increases in GDP growth for sure.

Logically, if war was good for the economy, then peace would not exist at all and we'd never stop having them, it would be a positive feedback loop.

I'm not saying it is simple or that there are no fringe benefits to causing wars (it appears to be the only way to obtain tax dollars for some kinds of civilian projects ironically, most notably basic physics research and space research), but the net affect has to be a reduction in overall economic production. It's hard to see the opportunity cost for the winner without an alternative reality to see how things could have turned out differently.

Oh yeah, and you might not win.

Yeah but it's good if you invest in weapons contractors. :)

I hope you've no capital in BAE Systems or Lockheed Martin Lim, because those companies are going down the tubes. They produce obsolete technology, today. Things like battleships and jet aircraft. It's like investing in horses, bared wire and guncotton before WWII, when you should be invested in bombers, sub-machine guns, submarines and so forth.

Of course, those things mostly didn't exist before WWII... existed, but not in a big way.

Similarly, you're not going to get a pay off by investing in 'advanced fighter jets' or 'hi tech subs' today. The future of warfare is changing to robotics, drone swarms, cyberwar etc. A much more agile, sneakier kind of war that uses many proxies. Swarm warfare would be fought in the suburbs, not the field.

Anyway, that's just an idea, I could be wrong.

But before you say I am, go to youtube and search for 'quadrotors'.

Lol what I invest in is not really wise to be discussed here. :)
