Hi,
Just a thought, have you guys ever thought of closing registrations? and new members can only join through invites? or randomly open registrations every once and awhile to limit newcomers? I know this would make it safer, because like the torrent site www.demonoid.me , they do the same type of thing where registration is closed and it takes an invitation code from an old and respected member to get them an account. It just concerns me, because now I hear of randoms who should not know, speaking about this site so the word is getting out, which is good but also can be dangering in the wrong hands. thank you, let me know what you guys think.

In case you haven't been paying attention, demonoid got shut down. It obviously didn't help them much, did it? Closing registration won't keep out LE that are already here. It's retards like you we want to keep out, and I'm sure you have an equally retarded friend or forum post that could get you, your friends, and LE right back in. Anyways, thanks for trying to help... Stay in school, don't quit the day job.

What the fuck does demonoid have to do with SR? But anyways, closing registration isn't only applicable to LE.. for example, scamming. Say one were so inclined to create an account which he uses to purchase from his vendor account. Then send the money to a new account, or even the same account, and purchase again.. and again.. until he builds a list of feedbacks that someone is going to fall for.. idk, does SR keep an eye on such transactions? If not, I'm beginning to suspect that BC, Gar and djprex are using this method to scam unsuspecting costumers.. food for thought

Quite surprising and sad that people obviously are saying no to this suggestion. A limited invitation procedure or closed would benefit EVERYONE.
Scammers would be less and less frequent after time. Dunno if it's greedy vendors or which people oppose this, seems weird since it's not like the vendors aren't making a ton out of this lol.
It is not good, more people are hearing the rumors of silk road, especially the kids, they are the dangerous ones. Very talky, and not just that, a higher scamming frequency among the kiddo's im sure.
Not good for business. The customs will up their security even more (don't say otherwise) when the rumor spread like wildfire.

I have heard it for over a year that we should have closed registration or an invite system...and what I hear is "I don't want anyone else to find this place after I did"
This is a public site, get the fuck over it. if you want a private site to close registration, and have your own group of friends be the only ones who use it (but don't want to navigate the complex hosting issues, and server hardening, PM me and I will get you a Freedom Hosting invite. You can build whatever drug empire you want with that invite, and you can close registration (and likewise, further profits) but this has been firmly established as an open and free access spot, SR will not (and SHOULD NOT) waver from that stance.
there is something to be said about troll/spam free forums (and SR admins just can't seem to even keep up in this fight) of a private nature. If you want one that only has opinions posted that are like your, fucking build it. ALL of the tools to do so are just as available to you as they are to anyone else, so why expect them to close registration on THEIR fucking money train of a site. I am losing my train of thought now,
but the point is LEAVE SR OPEN FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING OPPRESSED. GIVE US YOUR SOBER, YOUR SOURCELESS, YOUR JONESING HUDDLED MASSES, SO THAT THEY MAY BREATH THE SMOKE OF FREEDOM!

SilkRoad is an open market. Closing it goes against what the site stands for. Don't know how creators are pulling it off, but they sure amaze me.

vendors with a solid customer base of reapeat customers can go stealth. Im sure the better ones are stealth. youd never even know that they are there. ;D

If you have legitimate concerns about a vendor's method of operation and can substantiate your claims, please report it to a Moderator for investigation. If you sit on such information, you could potentially be costing a lot of buyers there hard earned coins. :)

Excellent points made by Shroomeister and wretched. I couldn't agree more. Some people don't seem to grab the concepts which make this site so good and can look at things from a skewed point of view. As Schroom wrote, some people have this attitude of "now that I'm in, who gives a fuck about the rest".
