Title: Decrypting a message
Post by: TurboSti on July 19, 2012, 12:10 am
So the person I'm trying to decrypt a message to has my public key and I have theirs but I'm not entirely sure how to decrypt their message. Using gpg4usb do I still need to have my publice key or private key checked along with the other persons and then copy and paste their message into the main box to decrypt? Or do I need to save that file somewhere?

I got an error that said decryption failed no secret key?

So I feel I must have messed something up because I never get the prompt to enter my password to decrypt a message but I've done everything right from what people say. This is the exact message I get when I copy and paste someones message into the box and press decrypt. "Decryption failed, No secret key, No private key with id (_____________) present in key ring" Is my private key somehow not there even though I see it. I feel as if I did something and should just try to start over and make sure I know exactly where everything is placed/saved and it'll work. Thanks for all your help Pine and Guru

Hmmmmmm.

It is hard to say. It has the characteristic of something simple, but at the same time non-obvious (like losing your real keys, I lose them all the time haha!). Yes, I think try re-importing PGP key. Delete, make a new one and try again (pine available for testing). Keep up the fight!
