Title: Has SR been hacked before
Post by: ikalihi812 on March 09, 2012, 11:08 pm
I've been wanting to make my own Tor Hidden Service but people keep insisting that hackers are going to get to the root of my server and I'll be doing some time afterwards lol... are these people paranoid?

My setup is going to look like this:
Web->Modem->OpenBSD firewall->OpenBSD gateway->OpenBSD server/Tor Hidden Service/Torbox

SR got taken down my anonymous/lusz, they said they where testing there attack methods on TOR related websites as they were running an operation on shutting down a load of TOR pedo websites, they said sorry for the inconvenience.

Who says Another bunch of geeks working for the goverment cant do it, not hacked but it got taken down.

Who runs anonymous?  How do they decide whom they attack?  Is there any way the attack on SR was accidental?

You need to use virtualization to isolate your tor server from your http server, etc. that way even if one is compromised it won't be able to disclose your real IP.

DDoS is not a hack.

You could join a BSD/Linux or computer security user group then get the script kiddies and maybe a few heavies to have a go at your box. Offer a variety of prizes for the various levels of disruption and penetration that you are worried about. Increase the value of the prize over time. A group with a lab and a private [Tor] network would be ideal if you really want to explore the possibilities.

You may also want to consider the possible HUMINT operations through normal access to your site.

That's an understatement.

who would care about another boring little web site? standard security will foil the punters. your other concern is your neighbors and friends. if one of them wander onto the site and recognize your "style", you're outed. otherwise if you are unlucky enough to fall into the crosshairs of some underground exotic technology weapons designer a modern hermetic alchemist of the machine-head sort then there's nothing you can do. pull the plug maybe?
