SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It was not the popular sandwich topping, but rather 273 grams of pure cocaine that were found inside peanut butter jars seized from a postal package Thursday, police say.
Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Jorge and Johnny Rivera of Springfield, and Marilyn Nunez of Holyoke all face 17 years mandatory jail time if convicted on drug charges connected to the case.
Delaney says that prior to their arrest, a drug sniffing dog had detected cocaine in the package, which was to be delivered to the Riveras’ 47 Worcester Avenue home. Police, who had been working with the Postal Service, had obtained a search warrant for the home, and the delivery of the package was scheduled.
Before it was delivered to the house, Delaney says the three traveled to Springfield’s main post office on Liberty Street to sign for the package. Police, who had set up surveillance in the parking lot, had arrested them as they were getting into their car.
Police also seized the delivered package, which contained the peanut butter jars that contained cocaine.
The three are charged with trafficking in cocaine over 200 grams, violation of a drug-free school zone, and conspiracy. They were arraigned Friday in Springfield District Court.

Vaccum seal does nothing to stop a dog.. but it will make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Shipping jars of peanut butter in the mail... stupid fuckers.
I bet they put "jars of peanut butter" on the customs slip if it was a OS package
Cant you buy peanut butter in Springfield ?? ::)

I gave this a test because it was discussed in another thread someplace.. but I triple vac'd some bacon, I washed it with soap and hid it in the mountain of cushions on the couch and then sat my dog in front of the couch.. it sniffed it out in seconds. Thats an untrained dog that loves bacon. I am going to do it a few more times before I convince myself that vac sealing does not stop a dog.
or a bacon loving dog ;D ;D

You will have contaminated the outer layers of the packaging. Even if you ensure that you don't contaminate outer layers, the package will only be dog-proof for a certain period of time.

It does reduce the amount of particles that dogs can smell quite a bit, thus greatly increasing the chance your pack getting through.

I was under the impression that once particles have permeated dogs can smell them. Vacuum sealing then is only useful against dogs if it can stop permeation for the entire time your package is in the mail system (well until its passed customs).

Ok novocaine, try this:
1. Cook your bacon. *sizzle*
2. Walk into a room away from the kitchen
2. Carefully pop it into a ziplock bag and seal shut.
3. Take a shower & change your clothes (tiny droplets of oil containing bacon fat are on your clothing/skin)
4. Come back to your bag wearing a pair of disposable gloves.
5. Vaccum seal ziplock. Ideally with HDPP plastic.
6. Rub bag down with alcohol. Any spirit handy will do.
7. Repeat 3 times.
8. Cover in an opaque wrapping plastic. (Your doggie might recognize bacon even if he can't smell it... They're not stupid!)
9. Present to Pooch.
10. ? ? ? ? ?
11. Profit?
Dude, I feel hungry for bacon now...

I shall do pine, on my next day off and want a bacon sandwich ;)
Im thinking after reading thru that other molecules thread that my dog may have fluked it, but Im not so sure because he never saw me stash it and I did wash it with soap.
But in the name of experimentation and being the type of dog it is(bacon loving dog 8)) I will try the above.
I will also try single, double and triple seals and also maybe do three of each seal left for an extended period of time like..
single vac seal 1 hour, 6hrs, 24hrs ect
I was thinking of a video but my dog is way too famous ;D

I have a childhood friend who ships and/or receives his herb in peanut butter jars.
It is a domestic affair. I do not believe anyone has been tipped off on his dealings.
My observation, when I read most of these controlled deliveries, it never seems like the first delivery and/or the persons of interest already have a criminal record.
So, if you are not shipping herb or blow, basically dogs are not trained for pills? Can someone shed some light on this for me, please.

The 17 years they could get wasn't JUST for the cocaine..
That amount of drugs in a school zone I believe is an additional felony on top of the possesion... and conspiracy to traffic... that's another felony.
That's 3 felonies, which obviously they wont get life in prison, the court will probably combine a few of the charges.
