Title: Fingerboxes
Post by: keepitallism on February 21, 2012, 06:26 am
It's a cubed hollow wooden box with a hole in the middle of it that you stick your finger in. Trust me, sticking your finger inside a fingerbox is a much more better source of happiness and euphoria than your MDMA! It's the greatest cure for boredom ever and owning such an object gives you an intense amount of bragging rights. "Hey Chwarlie, I gots me mah fingerin'box todee," and bam, you're the most popular person in your town. Maybe we can get some cool vintage fingerboxes with some soul built into them in SR, I sure hope so. But seriously, fingerboxes might be a nice gag item to put in the collectibles category. Hell, we have Fallout bottlecaps.

I can get some of these, highest quality Nicaraguan hardwood ones with the rare silk lining.
Anybody interested send me a PM, I can do them for $200 each shipped.

I have an old ivory one myself that my grandfather gave me before he died. Works much better than those new oak or mahogany ones

I would be 400,000 quid for a Nicaraguan fingerbox as long as it has the rare silk lining

I can't tell if fingerboxes are for a different finger on your body or what, but I'd have to think the splinters would hurt...

You've either clearly never had a fingerbox or you've been using it wrong

I wouldn't quite agree with your description of a fingerbox, but I'd be amazed to see em on SR, guessing most sellers would avoid this place out of paranoia. I used to fingerbox (4" japanese real silk-lace lined 8-holer) but started getting really fucked up over it. ended up selling it to some guy for a few hundred £££. Part of me is glad to see it gone, but i have to admit that i would be tempted should some nice pieces show up here...

You know, I'm not sure about these new e-fingerboxes. Sure, they're pretty, but a 250-year-old teak fingerbox made in England, Germany or Japan will do the job just as well, and has got tons of potential for upgrading. I've got a collection of all sorts, and I must say that one of my favorites is a 170-year-old scrimshandered palm fingerbox from Rehoku which feaures part of a dendroglyph and was crafted by British sailors stuck on the island from HMS Prophetess. It's a gorgeous bit of work and is so beautiful.

The overall feel is very good inside too, as it was lined with lambskin and felt. The mechanism is in tip-top condition because even though it's a wooden Heidelburg design the actual wood used is, like the case, palm and thus can be kept beautifully clean and functional with palm oil, which also brings out a lovely dark finish. It's locked with an ivory key (cut from whalebone) engraved with the intials A.E. and in a niche inside the lid is a Gold Sovreign, which I only found when examining the fingerbox just after I bought it - I was looking at the hinge and I noticed a tiny button, and click! Out it came. It's a wonderful piece of work, I had it insured for £17,000 but I think it would make several times that at auction.

Has anyone tried the stainless steel finger boxes? I like them but I'm not sure if they're worth the extra money.

Hmm, you can't beat the feel of natural wood, stainless steel ones can be quite dangerous too.

I guess this is the thread I'd put it in, since you guys will know more about this request... But I'm looking for a copy of Battletoads. I had it for N64, lost it when I moved :(
It was the best. I'm looking for a PC rom / emulator, or an original cartridge if you have it, though I've given up my search for one.

I'd be down for trading my fingerbox for it - its simpler, acrylic with felt, but has the battletoads logo engraved in the side.

so let me get this right, you take a box, put a hole in it, stick your finger in that hole, and you receive some sort of pleasure from it? is it just me, or is this the most stupid thing i've ever heard of

I just found my grand father's old fingerbox in the attic. It is carved out of ivory, he must have got it while he was in Malaya during the war. Would anybody be interested in it? I already have a SynSkin one so I dont really need it but some people prefer the feel of the old ones.
