Title: Shipping internationally inside books?
Post by: GrandTheftTaco on February 13, 2012, 12:38 am
Anybody have any luck with this method?

IE: Carve out a bit of a compartment in the book with a razor for the goods to sit in, maybe saran wrap/heatseal the book before shipping?

Do they x-ray the books, or even go as far as to remove the wrapping to examine them?

It's the kind of idea that sounds cool, but actually isn't.

Probably the single biggest criteria for package profile analysis is weight. Books add weight.

I recommend keeping under 7-10 grams per package and sending lots of them. Odds of interception become astronomically small. Larger quantities are possible, but only if you're a pro at doing this. People who regularly ship a few kilos of weed or cocaine are just asking for trouble. This is all about keeping under the radar.

Also, using cling film... Are you kidding me? Do yourself the world's biggest favor and invest in a piece of vacuum packing equipment, they are not even that expensive.

Since you mentioned cling film of all things, I'm also now obligated to tell you to use gloves. We are reverse package profile engineers here!

Saran wrap... FML... somebody fetch me a glass of water.

Dude, I hope your not yet selling.  Do your research.  Thoroughly.  Your going to get your customers busted if you don't.

Bad idea. From a UK Royal Mail guide for postal workers that pine posted in another thread:

Quote
ยท Contents 1 : If, in addition to other indicators, (balance, weight, packaging
etc ) the appearance suggests that the package could contain a book or
videocassette it should be treated as a possible postal bomb or IED.
