Title: Withdrawal problems
Post by: Dread Pirate Roberts on February 11, 2012, 06:06 am
UPDATE 2/14/2012 2:05 pm UTC: Withdrawals are now flowing again.  Thank you everyone for your patience throughout this process.  As always, if you have any grievance at all, I completely understand.  I and the rest of the support staff are here to make it right.  Please just let us know.

UPDATE 2/14/2012 1:08 pm UTC: The bitcoin exchange rate just dropped about a buck, so we will be adding 15% to all of the current pending withdrawals to cover it.

UPDATE 2/14/2012 6:37 am UTC:  We are looking at up to 24 more hours until withdrawals can start flowing again.  There is a chance it will be ready sooner, but I can't guarantee it.  Really sorry, but I think we'll be good to go after this.

UPDATE:  Ok, we are still having problems.  I am going to roll back the withdrawal system to a configuration known to work and re-evaluate the whole thing.  You can still withdrawal right now, but there is going to be a delay of several hours before the withdrawal is made.  If you made a withdrawal any time from around 10pm feb 13th UTC until now, your withdrawal is queued and will be processed, but it's going to be a few hours at least.  I'll keep this thread updated with progress.

Hey gang,

We've been having problems with some user's withdrawals the past week or so where their accounts were debited, but the actual Bitcoin transfer was never broadcast to the Bitcoin network.  It took some figuring out, but I think we finally have it fixed.  Please double check that your withdrawals over the past week or so made it out.  If you find any that weren't sent, but your account was debited, please message support via the contact us link on the main site with the amount and time of the withdrawal.  So sorry for the trouble this has caused everyone, especially the vendors that were depending on those funds to re-stock.

It's widely available online and offline, I won't give you a direct link because I'm not sure how sensible giving people direct download links is on here.

Quote
There are men regarded today as brilliant economists, who deprecate saving and recommend squandering on a national scale as the way of economic salvation; and when anyone points to what the consequences of these policies will be in the long run, they reply flippantly, as might the prodigal son of a warning father: 'In the long run we are all dead.' And such shallow wisecracks pass as devastating epigrams and the ripest wisdom.

Very relevant today I think, with the BOE setting around yet another round of pointless quantitative easing.

The economy is a credit junkie. It has a high tolerance for expanding the supply of credit. Best thing would be to go into rehab and hibernate for a while to get that shit out of your system, but unfortunately politicians are all too ready with the next hit.

Sure you'll get some short term relief, but eventually the economy will convulse into an overdose. With some luck I am completely dead wrong on this.

Im surprised how many people here never saw the Princess Bride...

I know they are really missing out! Its one of the best imo

And leave it DPR to tackle daunting odds and insurmountable obstacles, feats that downright perplex and bewilder the common man, with seeming ease.

Thank you for all you do!

I don't think it's fixed yet, David.  I made a withdrawal today and it hasn't shown up yet. I also have duplicate transactions, for example, I withdrawal 10 BTC and get it twice, totaling 20 BTC to my wallet from a 10 BTC withdrawal. Hopefully this can be fixed without too much problems.

The duplicate (or multiple) amount is probably just gonna go away. Have you checked recently?

The Bitcoin network can take a while to sync up and eliminate duplicates.

I'm just wondering if I should be putting listings on vacation and holding off on shipping things.

If there is a possibility I'm not going to get the coins, there is no way I'm going to keep sending things out D:

I withdrew a significant amount of funds last night and they seemed to have vanished as well. I contacted customer support... waiting for response.

A friend of mine also tried to transfer some coins into SR via an outside wallet and the coins have been "processing" since the transfer was first initiated last night.

I hope these problems get cleared up soon.

Is this still a problem?
I am thinking about becoming a vendor soon, but with the present danger of losing money I have held back.
Please update this DPR.

This very clearly is still unresolved, DPR needs to get off his ass and fix it. Vendors can't afford to have hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of bitcoins just go missing.

i had 3.04 btc stored in my account, i enabled auto-withdrawl and 1.85 was taken from my account...1.18 is still there...but the 1.85 hasnt hit block explorer yet and its been 2 hours.  Im not overly worried because of the size of the amount thats missing, but i am confused why not everything was withdrawn.

took my withdrawal about  24 hours, but it finally made it to my wallet.  sucks that the coin has dropped in value over $1 too.

on a side note i wonder if SR was handed down from its original creator to Dread pirate roberts.

I had an issue with coin too but DPR was able to get it fixed in a day or two. I wonder if the issue is actually 'fixed' yet.

As to the Dread Pirate Roberts I suspect that DPR is the user previously known as Silk Road for now(The user ID number is the same). However SR Support is now user 104259 whereas it used to be 1. So this makes me think that at some point in time (if it hasn't happened already) the individual who was/is the original creator will no longer be the 'captain' so to speak, which would be consistent with the original Dread Pirate Roberts premise which is that Dread Pirate Roberts who is not one individual but a name passed down to a chosen successor of the original.

Or, as DPR said himself when he announced his imminent name change, he wants to have a separate identity around here from the silk road itself. So it makes sense to not only change his name but disassociate the two accounts.
