Title: multiple quantites of one product
Post by: Asbjorn on January 31, 2012, 07:15 pm
Hi.

Title pretty much says it. Would really clean things up and should not be too hard to realize. Think this would be a benefit to all of us. Anybody else think this?

You mean like, on the listing? Ie, the vendor posts a page selling weed, and then on it you have the option to choose 1/8th, quarter, ounce, etc? Because you can already change the quantity of something in your cart.

First thing you said. yeah you can change the quantity but you do not get the discounts.

Yea, I like that. I think it would remove a fair amount of the clutter when people keep having to make multiple posts for the same product. It would be like the recent update on Amazon, where they stopped listing quantities as different products and put them all on the same page. It's annoying to see so many different versions of the same product.

But, at the same time, it's difficult if you're looking for a specific amount, because then you'd have to either have some way of listing what quantities are available as a separate column, or users would have to look inside each one to see what quantities for what prices were available. =/

This would also help compile all of the reviews for the same product on one page which would be nice. Right now, buyers can miss out on helpful reviews if they are buying a different quantity. SR could also display the tiered pricing and show how much the buyer would save by purchasing a higher quantity. This might increase sales as well.

I strongly support this post.
I am up for not having multiple listings of the same item.
Just multiple quantities, sizes, etc.

Let me get it straight.
You mean like:

Clonazepam post by user Knives
He has all kinds
So on the page next to "Add To cart" is a drop down for .5mg 1mg and 2mg
You select the mg you want, hit "add to cart" and then inside the cart you select exactly how many you want.

Is that correct?
Title: Re: multiple quantites of one product - Price Breaks/bulk discount

Sorry if this topic is too old to bump, but we still could benefit from automated price breaks! I would love it as a vendor, customers have been mentioning it to me, and it would reduce clutter on the site.

Problems to be solved:
 - Multiple listings for one product
 - Pigeonholing orders into multiples of some quantity (e.g. pills x 20, you can only buy 20, 40 , 60; if you try to buy 23 you need a custom listing)
 - Using a "minimum quantity" for orders (sometimes customers don't notice, sometimes the vendor forgets to 'refill' the listing)
 - Having to spread "number available" around between several listings in order to prevent double ordering (whichever one is selling must be 'refilled' from the other listings)

Current workarounds:
 - Custom stealth listings
 - Multiple listings of different quantities
 - Multiple listings with different minimum quantities, cancel orders from customers who didn't notice the minimum
 - Base Charge: a small fee is added to every order, and the product is sold for a slightly reduced unit price. (base charge is currently added to shipping cost - this maybe be against the rules though).
e.g: If you usually sell sets of 10 pills for $100 a set , you could instead charge $9 per pill with a $10 base charge. Then you get the following price breakdown:
qty:        Price:        Effective Unit Price:
  1             19                       19
  2             28                       14
  5             55                       11
 10           100                      10
 20           190                     9.50
 50           460                     9.20
In this way, you can still make your expected income on orders of your default qty (10), small orders bring in enough to cover your labor, and large orders provide a pretty solid discount to your customers (you can mess with the numbers to provide more or less of a bulk discount). I'm sure someone else has mentioned this strategy before, please show me so I can give them credit. Also, if it's against the rules, let me know; I'm not trying to screw SR by using shipping charges to avoid commission (I'll donate the extra few dollars I get in order to make it fair).

Proposed Solutions
 - Allow vendors to specify prices for several different quantities when creating the listing (as mentioned by many others in this thread); then the listing automatically gives the best price available to the customer. It may also be helpful to list more than one price on the front/search page (maybe display the first three price breaks?) so that bulk customers aren't turned off by your high price for singles.
 - Make the "base charge" a standard option: This way SR can charge commission on it, so it won't be shady or anything. Also, make it obvious to customers, so that they aren't surprised by the high price (instead of "WTF, $13 for First Class?" they see $3 for FC and $10 Base Charge). Also, maybe come up with a better name than "base charge" ('order fee', 'labor cost', 'blanket charge', 'vendor commission', 'beer stipend', 'vendor-doesn't-want-to-work-for-$2-an-hour disbursement', or perhaps just 'moneyz')

In the meantime, I'm constantly looking for a better workaround, let me know your methods if you're willing to share.

Thanks,
Peace

+1, solid idea to help clean up the amount of listings for the same item.

A thing I have seen done is when a vendor lists an item(in this case weed) and uses the postage to select the quantity and price. If you include shipping in your prices, this works as an effective method, except when someone wants to order say, two ounces of weed and only 1 ounce then a QP are available. In that case, and that case only, a user would have to make two separate orders.

Credit to the method goes to SuperCanna, by the way.
