IS TORMAIL DOWN AGAIN?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-
Yes it is, and has been for hours, the stinking piece of unreliable shit.
terp
-
yup, it's probably under attack... one would assume the government are trying to access someones tormail account
-
tormail has not been reliably accessible for the past few days... can anyone reccomend a different secure Tor webmail service to use or at least to have as a backup? Thanks
-
It didn't work for me either. I don't know if someone's attacking it or something. Good thing I almost don't use it for most messaging things.

Don't know of any on tor, however plenty of clear net providers that you can access through tor, most of which are servered in countries that would not give out account info to any law enforcements in USA or UK unless huge amounts of pressure was forced upon them and if you use encryption and back up you're personal keys etc then you're safe.
For more info message me.

glad to know im not alone though.
Lets hope its back up soon, but even when it does come back. will it be safe to use?

need alternatives?
-
a few alternatives...
lavabit.com
mail.ru
securenym.net (costs money for account)
Pretty sure you can access them all through tor...
Do you're research, and remember when it comes down to it you need to encrypt everything sensitive no matter what provider you use.

Riseup.net is also solid. but you must wait for your account to be approved before you can login (which is honestly a feature i like)

this website says it s up http://www.websitedown.info/tormail.org
one of the annoying thing is that there is no info as to why it is down and how long is this going to be
-
The hidden service is down. Strange timing that Freedom Hosting is also down. I don't remember FH ever being down this long.

I'm now getting the following error message:
Down for Maintenance
Sorry, This server is currently offline for maintenance.
Please try again in a few hours.
Just tried another site (presumably hosted by Freedom Hosting) and got the very same error message. I suspect that this is the hoster's error message, not that of Tormail.

Freedom hosting and tormail is compsomised by the FBI!
Thats why tormail is down.
-
looks like Tormail might be gone for while because of the Freedomhosting bust
I never actually used Tormail tho, but my PGP key is tied to that email addy. Anybody think that could be a problem even if Tormail servers get seized and compromised?
I mean the private part of the key isn't stored there or anything

Gone for a while? No. I would bet that Tormail has breathed its last. The operator is likely hunkering-down, trying to assure their own safety. Even in the event that the service should be resurrected, I would be wary of using it.

Since you haven't used it, your risk is very low.

I had always thought tormail was an independent hidden service. But now it's been conjectured that it was hosted on FH.
Couldn't the tormail operator simply resurrect tormail as a hidden service? My understanding is that it's not that complicated.
If it is resurrected, how would we know that in fact it's now a hidden service? More to the point, even if it is, though, how would we know it's not compromised?

My point preciselt Goblin, We wouldent know, So we wouldent know whether to trust it or not, And personally i dont want to take the chance, like i bet most others arent, So we need an alternative asap
