Title: Yet an Other Customer Who Can Not Log In: Wasn't Phishing, Never Changed My PW
Post by: Josey Wales on December 19, 2012, 11:52 am
The title sums it up. I just read the "PINS PINS PINS" sticky, which is a relief. I thought maybe the admins had no power to reset passwords, but after reading the sticky, I'm relieved, sort of. My reasoning is that if they can reset pins, surely they can reset the log in password. As I've said in other threads, I have the SR url memorized and never access the road through links of any kind. I've never changed my password and while I have a small but significant chunk of change in my account, my pin is strong, so I don't expect it to be brute-forced for many years. My only worry now is that if some penis vacuum has access to my account, they may have my pin reset before the admins can restore access to myself. That fear is magnified by the fact that many admins have disappeared and I'm sure whoever is left is busy dealing with Silk Road's security holes and other users problems. Can somebody on the staff please at least contact me or respond to this thread? If someone has asked for a pin reset, please deny it until you can restore access to myself. My SR account is under the exact same name as my forum account (Josey Wales). Even letting me know that you will fix my dilemma eventually would be very reassuring. Thanks in advance.

I know there are a few other users out there who have similar complaints. Do any of you find your situation to be very much the same as mine? I'm going to contact support under a different account, which probably won't help my case much, so I'd like to cite other users experiencing the same problem as my own. Perhaps we can all have this resolved at the same time. What do you guys think?

No one can help you here, contact support with a different account. Give them details about your recent activity, transactions, btc amounts etc. They ll probably respond to you after a few hours.

I just got a response from SR support using a different account. They reset my pw for me and all my bitcoins are still there. Thanks a lot SR support and Acider for reminding me to prove who I am. I seriously wouldn't have thought of it until they asked. They got back to me quickly. I couldn't ask for better service.

Case closed!

Glad to hear thing worked out for you.  What you (and others) might wish to consider in future is posting a PGP key to a PGP keyserver, e.g. the Indymedia Keyservers: http://qtt2yl5jocgrk7nu.onion/

The reason for suggesting this is because this provides an out-of-band mechanism for someone to retrieve your PGP key.  The reason an out-of-band mechanism is important is to forestall any problems arising out of the potential compromise of either the SR site or the SR Forum site. Even if both sites were compromised, it would be highly unlikely that anyone could also compromise the keyservers at the same time.

Such a PGP key would help provide proof of identity, in the case you ever lose access to your accounts.

Ok, this is looking like a common issue. There are SEVERAL people with this problem after the image hack thing and YES I am one of them.

Ill sum this up real nice for those with this issue:

1) Calm Down
2) Make a new account
3)Message SR support; inform them of the issue. ( I assume they will reset PW)
4)Be prepared to prove your identity (recent transactions, approx bitcoins, etc)
5)Smile and be Nice (It's the Holidays)

It sounds like people have had success with this. I just did this steps, and am patiently waiting.
