Post by: chyna white on December 15, 2012, 07:10 am
There is a phishing website if u click on the link from the SR wiki, it must have been hacked.

It looks the same except it asks for pin number aswell..

I fell for it, but reaslised my mistake when it said SR was down for maintainance try later.

Are you saying that the log in asks for a pin as well?

Who falls for this shit?

A fairly well-established heroin vendor who also recently made the mistake of sending several customers the same tracking number, apparently.

Caveat emptor, though. More power to you, CW.

Thanks for responding to my PMs. The reason I asked you for additional information, was that I was confused -- because when I went to the Wiki, it showed the correct Silk Road address, i.e. http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion.

When I dug a little deeper, I discovered that someone had edited out the offending URL you listed above:

Wikipedia Edits as shown on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:West.andrew.g/Dead_links/Archive_1011

Dec 15, 2012 5:42:11 AM GMT -- Connection failure with URL "http://ibe45p3bm4o7yo5g.onion/" (link search) on RID 528118757 (diff) on page Silk Road (marketplace)

Dec 15, 2012 5:42:11 AM GMT -- Connection failure with URL "http://ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion/" (link search) on RID 528118757 (diff) on page Silk Road (marketplace)

The first URL is the one you listed, and it is the fake one showing 3 fields: username, password, and the PIN number field.  This is undoubtedly what you were referring to.

The second URL is the old Silk Road URL, which has long been obsolete.

So, by the time I wrote you asking for additional information, the phishing link had already been removed from the Wiki.

Thank you for helping me get to the bottom of this.

Anybody who is trying SR for the first time. I typed the URL and just bookmarked the page once I got in. As a backup, I wrote it down with all my PWs and put it in my safe. I've gone off using Hidden Wiki for the moment. I don't trust it.

I always consult TorDir first.

I usually just go to the forums first and then go through a vendors profile link. Also I don't have the url memorized but I at least know that if the url doesn't have silkroadvb5 in the beginning it's bullshit.

It's an easy one to remember: silkroad + vb5 + piz + 3r and then the onion toplevel domain.

Assign meaning to the groups and you'll never forget them again, but even if you don't do that they're short enough that once you see the groups separately and type them that way a few times, you might just remember it anyway.

vb5 = "ve be 5" = "we be 5" ("there a five of us")
piz3r = "pisser" with a z, no doubled consonants and a 3 for the e (a la "1337")
