Title: REQUEST:Making pgp a requirement for a buyer's account?
Post by: GetYourFix on December 09, 2012, 02:03 am
It would make for a MUCH safer community, it doesn't leave anyone out, and while I'm not a technical expert by any stretch of the imagination, but surely there is a way to implement some sort of verification system to validate the key. Much safer than providing an email address lol. You obviously don't have to use your email addresses when creating your key.

Because it as raise overall awareness of how important forum presence is even before you buy something. I mean if you want to send me (by me I mean whatever vendor) your address where you pick up illegal narcotics in your mailbox, it burdens you exponentially moreso than myself. I would have to disagree with you and say that the majority responsible, respected vendors prefer that their customers encrypt your address moreso for your safety than anything else. It also exposes them to how SR works so that the same questions that have been asked by new members since my very first purchase on my buyer account do not require a new topic every single time. I have no idea now long you've been around here, but this isn't the old days when we thought good god 10,000 members was undead of. Then the madness, ensued.... I'm not upset about it though and I welcome new members, but you have to remember that this isn't like buying a dime bag off your buddy. These actions have serious, life changing consequences that will make that whole "caring" thing you were talking about your biggest regret. Just my opinion, please don't think I'm being brash by any stretch of the imagination. Just a friendly response to your query. :-) Take it easy, friend!

Bump for my friend GetYourFix

I didn't see that you'd already started this thread, I started one just like it except it would not be a requirement, it would be a profile addition.... on the Settings page a buyer would have the option to add PGP. Vendors could then find the key near their Purchase stats or something.... The lack of a PGP key could be criteria for order cancellations by Vendors at their discretion.

All of this has been suggested before -- and like before, it will be ignored.  Nothing of the kind is going to be implemented because DPR does not believe in it. DPR has stated that he encourages the use of PGP, but refuses to make it mandatory.

From my point of view, the signal being sent by top management is that, in the final analysis, PGP really isn't that important.  While public awareness of PGP's role in providing security is vital, that in and of itself is simply not enough.  In my view, for any real changes to be accomplished, direction simply has to come from the top, and to be blunt, that is not going to happen, because this would go against DPR's agorist philosophy.

I don't agree it should be mandatory.

I agree that it should be an option on the Account Settings page, and visible under Buyer Stats.
