Title: Am I Ready Yet? (Help A Noob and WIN!)
Post by: The Mustard Walrus on October 27, 2012, 12:58 am
First of all, I'm new, so I hereby bend over happily awaiting my ass to be thoroughly paddled until red and swollen. I know some of you hate newbs asking about certain things with all the info on the forums and wiki, but after many hours of reading, I am still unsure whether I am OK to proceed with making an order. I am very grateful for any help offered.

First of all, my objective: I'm here to make a few quick orders and get the hell outta here. Unless my comfort level with SR increases and/or I become more of a junkie than I ever planned on being.

Here's where I'm at.

I got Tor, used that to get my SR account, got a Bitcoin wallet, got GPG, and am pretty sure I know how to use all of this stuff correctly. I am running all of this off a USB drive which I will gladly throw into the pits of Mordor after I'm finished my business here. I've scouted a site to get Bitcoins: CaVirtEx (I'm Canadian), yet haven't made an account there yet. When I do, I plan on doing a cash deposit at the bank to get my BTC, then transfer it to my wallet.

SO...

First question: When making my account at CaVirtEx, should I be using Tor, or no? And should the email address I provide them be my TorMail, or some disposable Hotmail account? I've heard using Tor for Mt. Gox is bad. Same apply for CaVirTex?

Second: Is it necessary for me to use another computer/another WiFi when doing my business with CaVirtEx? Is my home WiFi OK to set that up?

Third: Is it absolutely necessary for me to bounce my BTC off another wallet before I send them to my SR account? If so, what is the best secondary wallet to use? I know SR has a built-in tumbler, is that adequate?

I am stretching my tech savvy to its limit here. Damnit, I'm an artist, not a computer whiz!

P.S., I plan on only ordering domestically. As much as I'd love to order that amazing high-quality/low-price stuff from Netherlands, I have too many worries about Customs and my tight virgin ass being pounded to pieces in prison.

Thanks a mil! Feel free to send a PGP message, I could use the practice.

Bbuying bitcoins is legal so when making your account with CaVirtEx tor isn't really necessary.  Also alot of websites like that blacklist people who make a connection to their site using tor.  My suggestion would be set up an account normally without tor, and then send your BTC through a fogger before sending them to your SR account. That way you should be clean of any traces to your BTC.  Then you are ready to make an order.  Good luck and enjoy SR!!

P.S.   SR isn't so bad like any community there's a large mix of personalities.  But overall the community is comprised of good decent people.  Hope you decide to stick around.

Thanks brother! If my confidence increases with a few successful orders I may well stick around.

As far as foggers/secondary bitcoin wallets, is there one you could recommend? I've heard of Bitcoin Fog... is that OK? I know some will charge a greater fee than others, so I figure I'll ask the experienced people which is the better deal or which is most effective.

Listen Mustard,

I don't know if I should wish you well or burst your bubble. No matter what you do you're taking a risk. SR isn't a suburban shopping mall. If you're not comfortable testing these waters from your country then don't take the risk. The last thing we need are buyers who get busted and then spin a tale about how evil SR made them do it.

Wackman, that's why I'm here asking questions, trying to learn the rules of the game, the strategies involved, and be as prepared as I can-- so I can prevent myself from becoming one of those people you don't want me to become. I appreciate your realness, and assure you I have no illusions about there being risk involved no matter what. Everyone is new at some point and this is a complicated system here for those who want to stay as safe as possible. I just want to know all the rules of the game before I take a seat at the table and place a bet, you know?

Getting a negative karma sure isn't the kind of help I was hoping for.

You sound like you've got your bases covered better than a lot of people here.

WSG - I was able to decrypt everyone's PGP message except yours. I got an error when I tried saying "Clipboard contained no valid encypted data." Does that just happened sometimes?
Maybe you can try again, or reply here in plaintext?

Thanks all for the PGP practice, I think I'm getting pretty efficient with it now.

Hello Mustard. I am in about the same situation as you. Just wondering if you got a reply on the fogger. And if so, who and where???

Wackman, that's why I'm here asking questions, trying to learn the rules of the game, the strategies involved, and be as prepared as I can-- so I can prevent myself from becoming one of those people you don't want me to become. I appreciate your realness, and assure you I have no illusions about there being risk involved no matter what. Everyone is new at some point and this is a complicated system here for those who want to stay as safe as possible. I just want to know all the rules of the game before I take a seat at the table and place a bet, you know?

Getting a negative karma sure isn't the kind of help I was hoping for.

Sorry Mustard, I may have jumped the gun on this one. + 1 Karma to you since I am actually glad to see new members take the time to find out how things work.
All I meant to say was that no matter how careful you are there is always a possibility of getting caught with your pants down.

Anyway, enjoy your journey down the road bro.

-Mustard Walrus

damn not sure what happened but I will try to remember the great words of wisdom I had :).
I us cavirtex myself i normally send all coins thru blockchain just so if the BTC exchange every came into question the coins are not headed straight to SR
not sure if they can track the wallet but I would rather have 2 companies that would need to cooperate.
I use a real email as most can be tracked back to you so I just buy my BTC with the knowledge that they are a legal item but may arise some suspicion
. If Every asked what I do with them i would reply...... I buy shit..... when asked what shit..... I would reply my lawyer better knows my business maybe you should contact him. I would only use the Virtex account for a couple of transactions then open a new one.....the blockchain wallet I only use once....I always get a new wallet on SR before forwarding my coins there.  I am a lonely buyer so I feel this security meets my needs. If I was a seller or bulk buyer I might reconsider this approach
If wifi is available it is great to use but I find buying BTC in Canada leaves a trace but do not feel for the small amount that goes thru an my account that LE would expend a ton of resources to track me down just for purchasing BTC.
I also started with domestic but the call of the unknown soon had me looking abroad.I have been receiving packages from all over the world at my receiving address mostly legit so I don't raise any eyebrows with the sudden influx of foreign packages arriving If this is not your case then 1 or 2 wouldn't draw much attention but is my opinion getting carried away will raise some suspicion

Wackman - Thanks man :) Having fun so far learning the ropes.

wsg - Thanks for rewriting that, much appreciated. I don't know why the PGP failed. Anyways, great advice there from someone who uses CaVirtEx. I will probably go with a very similar process for acquiring my BTC.

Virgil - I've learned that Bitcoin fog is a very good way to cover your bitcoin trails. It washes the hell out of them, but there is a fee involved. I have also heard from many people that it's not really necessary as long as you are bouncing your Bitcoins off of a couple different wallets like blockchain.info, instawallet, bitinstant, etc.
