Title: Unknown key error message when encrypting
Post by: solarsystem on October 23, 2012, 07:28 am
I've imported the vendors key and typed my address/message in the clipboard.  I click encrypt and select the appropriate vendors key and the following message comes up:-

Unknown key
you are going to encrypt a document using the following key
user name
key id
However it is not certain that the key belongs to that person.
Do you really want to use this key?

I've got this on all the different vendor keys used so far.  The big question, is this anything to be worried about?

Thanks

No, this is absolutely nothing to worry about. This is PGP & GPG's SOP (standard operating procedure).  It has to do with the Web of Trust that PGP/GPG uses.

If you want an explanation of what the Web of Trust is, please see: http://www.rubin.ch/pgp/weboftrust.en.html
