Quote from: EastCoastCollective on September 15, 2013, 05:59 pmAccording to an article published on 9/5/13 in USAtoday.com NSA spent many billions building a supercomputer that can crack any and all encryption software >:( After reading the article I wondered if its useless to encrypt??The intelligence agencies WANT you to think that encryption is useless, or too difficult, or too complicated, because then you'll transmit in the clear, which is the easiest for them to read. Nothing brings a smile to their lips more than the idea that "encryption is useless". If enough people begin to believe this, they'll be popping the champagne corks in celebration. The laws of physics are the same for us as for them. There are only the same number of hours in the day for us and for them. Granted, their resources are huge, but they are NOT infinite. If it was easy for them to crack all the current crypto, then they wouldn't be trying to subvert crypto standards, insert backdoors, and weaken things like random number generators. If they could truly crack everything they wanted, none of this would be necessary. Right now, only a tiny minority of people use encryption -- even if only 10% of the traffic was encrypted, they would literally be overwhelmed.
