I'm getting an error page right now...
I couldn't find a thread dedicated to Silk Road's current status (online vs. offline), so it would be nice if this thread can be used as such.
-
There use to be one but since it only took me 2 minutes to find the thread with the link I'm guessing you have no idea why it isn't online anymore.

did you add index.php to your URL so that its http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/index.php ?
-
its down for me? I've done a number of things and none of them seem to work. any suggestions?
-
I can never get warweeed's link to connect, always unable to connect. There is another darknet link test if found, Is It Up? (http://zw3crggtadila2sg.onion/isitup/index.php). According to it, no SR is not up (http://zw3crggtadila2sg.onion/isitup/index.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsilkroadvb5piz3r.onion)

It's up. I am on the marketplace right now.
-
well wtf? It has been non-accessible for me now for a couple hours. According to silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/index.php/silkroad/home (is it up?) the road is down. What gives?
-
Lucky me I suppose...
-
I just keep refreshing till i get in usually about 2 - 3 times
-
refreshing furiously like a tweaker gets the job done
-
It is being up and down a lot recently, Silk Road is increasing exponentially and i believe you can't make a new account at the moment because there is so much traffic to the website. Just try to get on at off peak times or keep refreshing.
-
There's something strange. I can connect to the SR forums and use it perfectly. No problems here.
And I can connect to the SR but when I try to log in, it tries to "connect" for 2 minutes and the times out. Is there a problem with my log in? Because yesterday I was logged in when SR stopped responding so I couldn't log out. Or does anyone else have the same problem (connecting to SR log in fine, but not actually logging in)?
-
Seems to not be allowing me to log in either, get to the log in page then it times out while trying to get to the market page.
Damn annoying.

That cursed spam signups, must be pretty close to a Denial of Service attack also...I mean, we get it on main forum, *and* in private messages, so it's a miracle anybody can sign up at all...if they can...
-
I am having trouble connecting. They were doing some maintenance which was disabling new registrations the other day, so it is possible that it is "down" for such reasons. Just as likely is that the server is just swamped.
The most likely possibility is a combination of the two. Some servers are down and others have to make up for it by trying to process the same amount of traffic as normal so connections are hard to get.
But yes, it seems that connecting is not a possibility at the moment.

iv had problems the past 2 days now, it usually goes ok after a few refreshes but it has been extremely hard to find a connection recently, iv only been able to log in once in two days... :(

It was the same for me till yesterday. But last time I could get on the Road was yesterday night for half an hour. :( This evening there's absolutely no way.
I think I should go and meditate in the lotus position for a couple of hours... ::)
-
seems to be down again, am I correct?
-
I've been attempting to connect for the better half of four hours, constantly refreshing, to no avail. Typically I am able to get through without any problem after a few attempts but this is the first time I've experienced such downtime. Quite disappointing!
-
No luck over here either? Tried many different ways...
-
:( no luck
-
Cant login too...

UKGT is in the same boat !! :'(

The server at silkroadvb5piz3r.onion is taking too long to respond.
-
yep been trying to login, can't, going to try again.
Trying to check on my first order :-D
this whole deep web thing + bitcoin reminds me of nostalgia re: the Internet circa 1992
of course I was 12 then and knew nothing of the Internet but,
this is something like how I imagined it would be. Ah how refreshing, the chance to live life again via cycles of history!

yeah its fucking down.. has been for hours for me,... I guess its the buyers and vendors who cheat DPR and SR out of their just dues that we have to thank for this... that extra money could have us up and running...

So I have been trying to login for an hour at least with no luck. On another note, bitinstant is now up and working. I just completed a few transaactions with them via zip zap payments. Is there some way to connect?
I'm in the same situation, used bitinstant this morning and have been waiting 7 hours to connect to SR. It was working fine when I went to deposit, then of course it goes down when I get back. Oh well, I guess it's a game of hurry up and wait.

I swear the same thing happens to me too. Only this time I'm not waiting on BTC. Just got paid and was going to shop. Oh well.

yeah, its been the same for me too unfortunately :(

I have been trying on and off for 6 hours, but no joy
I take comfort in the fact that its not just me...
I hope its nothing too serious and something that can be resolved soon
-
All day for me, I got the packages I knew about out in time, but the amount of down time and continuous troubles worry me a tad. Could we get a Mod to chime in please? I know servers and something is not right here (security attack, last of hardware, or a few other scary "what if's").
I would believe we as a community would help anyway we needed to, I know I would :)

read the thread.
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=64627.345
DPR has already explained it all.
-
Still not working for me. I usually can log on within 3 or 4 tries, but no such luck this time.
-
Damn its still not working, I guess I'll have to randomly wake up in the middle of the night and try to access it...
-
Is http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/index.php up?
No
I havent been able to get a whiff of a connection for 4+ hours tonight
-
it was working fine for me all week, even earlier today... but now that i need to finalize i cant get on
it may just be a really high traffic time, and servers overloaded unfortunately. or there might be something up again.
unfortunately the forums mods have no insight into SR, we only have powers on the forum so i am in the same boat with no additional info to provide
-
Definitely seem altogether down right now and not just heavy traffic problem...
-
still down @2024 central
-
Something happened this morning that shut the site down completely, was browsing fine then nothing. I'm guessing a software or hardware update, that's the only thing that would shut it down this long. Would explain why there is so little info from the big guy.

Scare tactics. The whole point of 'stealth shipping' is that it will look like any other package. Also their post office is very small so they can sit all day shaking a box around and smelling it...
"“Australia Post sees around 100 parcels come through its doors each day in Esperance,” Det Sgt Harris said."

Hoping! Just seemed odd to me that they posted that article one day before these problems occured. Am i just paranoid or am I just stoned lol

Still down for me and I have been trying all day since morning, have tried everything..index.php, restarting tor three times and restarting my pc which shouldn't matter.
Hopefully it's up soon..kinda getting paranoid..

does anyone have estimated time when sr will not be down?
-
SR has been down for 12 hours without an official response. It would seem the end is at hand. I have a feeling this is not the work of le but at the will of some righteous hacktivist group.
-
true, sucks i lost 10 btc if it dont come back up
-
That would certainly suck, the whole thing does seem odd though. Guess we will know something by tomorrow.
-
The timing to the recent SR server issues is too close for me to think this is an LE or hackavist thing.
-
Dey Took Our JEBS

Yeah it sucks but it'll eventually come back up, always does. Shit it was down longer last week and like always some people were coming here calling out the end of the world, LE taking over, yadda yadda yadda and then those people were nowhere to be found with their LE crap when it came back up.
I'm trying to finalize orders, order some more, and have BTC locked up here to like a lot of other people but there's just nothing we can do except wait until SR is back up and running.
-
^ +1

Last week SR access was spotty true. DPR made an appearance and calmed suspicions. Not the case this go. I have been a member for some months now and not once has SR been down for 12 hours straight without explanation.

its Friday night... Everybody Smoke a nice joint tonight. Relax it'll be back soon 8) 8)

agreed

Soooooooo slooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww...... I guess no one has been able to get on hmm?
W/e I'm taking a nap. lol

I'm not entirely sure what the software stack of silkroad is, but i suspect its some sort of relational database with some scripting language. I have noticed that pages involving search are significantly slower than other pages. This should not be the case. Implementing a fulltext search engine will drastically improve performance and boost scalability VS a relational database on its own.(on the same set of hardware)
Some suggestions for site scalability improvements:
1. Run a denormalized fulltext search engine that pre-joins related sql tables together into one giant fulltext index. (sphinx, lucene)
- You can actually run a full search server on every webserver(I'm assuming there is some sort of cluster in the web tier). Search queries per second will scale with addition of webservers
2. Memcached for static pages. A server that may only be able to server up a 10s of database queries per second will be able to return 100s-1000s of memcache queries
3. nginx for reverse proxying/clustering
4. Non-relational DB for anything that isn't doesn't require safe transactions. Allows better geo-scalability with more advanced Geo-replication than SQL
5.) Asynchronous master/slave replication for the rest of the data that needs to be queried, while possibly doing data partitioning on things like orders and users

Didn't even think about that, interesting to see but I really hope it's not going to be down for much longer. :-\
-
I don't know if anyone else experienced this, but last night when I tried using the forums it said I was banned. Closed torbrowser/vidalia and reopened a few times, was still banned as a guest. Seems like they blocked all ips from coming on the forums then.
-
I cant get on either - I have a few sales that need to be finalised as well so this is gonna fuck up my stats.

I was banned last night as well as everyone else I knew tryin to access here. Wacky.

As a vendor, and we are the source of all SR revenue, this the worst possible
scenario. What's the point of increasing membership if we can't make sales, when
that's the point of the whole thing?
If the problem is indeed too much traffic, better to just remain small and effective
than big and ... crap! First responsibility is to the established users, both buyers
and sellers, not to more and more newcomers.
goblin
-
Hopefully they are working in a new solution..
But I am with goblin here.. New membership should open ONLY when there is enough hardware to support it.. there must be a way to calculate the curve of effectiveness. The circle will only open when everyone fits in it.
Having more costumer base is good for everyone... but if that means all or nothing .
SR has multiplied the listed items x10 in the past months and the buyers have grown even more .. Its understandable that things aren't going as smooth as 5 months back .
The revolution should get to every place in earth but with calm and good manners, nothing was achieved rushing.
Haste makes waste.
-
I;m still having problems since being able to connect for a short time Thursday night.
Did someone/somewhere post an article about SR? Just wondering -why- there would be an influx of new members/registration of a sudden.
At first I thought it may have had something to do with hurricane Sandy (That's when it all started for me last week), but I'm still have a connection failure.
Bummer!
-
Meh, fuggit. Can't get on, I'll try again tomorrow. ???
-
Just thought I'd add that I also cannot access it.
My the cable internet is currently down as it is currently being upgraded to 100 MBit in my area (engineers taking their time), so I signed up to a 5 day BT Hot Spot account, so I can at least get a fast-ish wireless connection.
I thought connecting through the hot spot may be the problem for some reason, so I tried to eradicate this by connecting to my work's VPN connection, remotely connected to my desktop and downloaded Tor from there to try and access it. Same problem. Other sites are fine though (hence me being able to access this forum).
I made my first purchase from the market yesterday and the last time Tor worked for me the status was 'processing'. I have no idea if I have to finalise it or what.
Oh well, the waiting game continues...
-
maintenance must be . . .
-
Still down for me, although I was able to connect early evening yesterday, it wasn't until late last night it went down for me, and still unable to connect this morning?
Let's hope it will be back up soon, got some things to finalize!
-
Annoying to say the least, need to extend orders....
-
just transferred my first btc into SR and now i cant access. Very frustrating...
Hopefully it will be back up soon
-
Im fairly new to SR. Has it ever been down this long before? It seems 50% of people saying to chill and thers nothing to worry about and other 50% are panicking badly............Anyone?

Im in the same boat. Transferred my first bitcoins yesterday minutes before it went down :/

Guys relax.
There is too much money on the line for the it to be down for too long.
It will come back online, just be patient.
The whole SR experience in general has done wonders for my patience ;)
-
I hope he's got backup and RAID if he got hacked or something.
Im looking into alternatives in times like this.
The Black Market has several mirrors. That is what I would suggest for SR>
-
Just wana get online. :(
-
It hasn't been down this much since I've been here, I think the site is overloaded with new users and broke down or something. Hopefully they are carrying out maintenance and will then close down registration for a while to prevent these issues in the near future while they improve the infrastructure. I was able to log on yesterday and finalize a few orders and such. I have a few more now I need to finalize so I hope it's back up soon. I doubt the vendors can log on either though so they're in the same boat. I'm always prepared for the worst though I have backup sites and connections I will go back to using if SR goes down permanently, but they're not nearly as good as SR in terms of the overall quality of the service and the product range.

What are you supposed to do if you have time sensitive business? I need to finalize one order and get another order purchased immediately. Also if the site is down what happens to btc that was deposited yesterday> What a mess. I need to pay people, I need to buy stuff.
Don't get me wrong... I appreciate the work that goes into this sight ans DPR has my vote of confidence, It just happens to be devastating timing to be offline for two days!
It would be nice if DPR provided us we an ETA. Went down about 20 hours ago for me. I have to get on today to finislize on a couple things and hopefully the btc I bought yesterday is sitting there,
Keep on rockin DPR. Due the best toy can.
Is there a list of people's tormal maintained here on this forum?

If you are lucky enough to get on while others still can't, do you bother making an order?

I need to get on the road also mate.
Since 2 days my btc's ain't showing up on SR.
I need to pay people and have about 160btc still staked there.
It is frustrating for everyone.
Luckily I got some big buys that arrived yesterday.
Those people need to get their money asap and now I pay them using their direct wallet.

It really feels like we are in some sort of bunker and in the outside world there is some sort of apocalpyse going on, and we are held in the darkness and not knowing if the evil busts through the doors or our people, telling it's safe to go outside again. Pretty theatrical I know.
But let's see what has happened over the course of just one week.
1. More than an usual amount of downtime
2. The vacation-mode glitch
3. Lots of vendors most recent packages never arriving (not _only_ high-risk countries but others aswell, I have noticed this unusual behavior when reading through many vendors's recent feedback)
4. All that stuff that happened to BitInstant, and other major Bitcoin-sites aswell earlier
5. The forum-ban glitch from yesterday
6. Now this.
Think what you think but I am just glad I used all my bitcoin just few days ago and got my stuff shipped.

honestly its down for me on my computer, I can connect but it doesnt load, tried like 20 new identities and whole new tor routes (restarting) but for my phone which has selectable exit nodes its always up, ive left it on the same exit node for a month.
-
24 hours for me as of now, all I can think is I am glad I can get in touch with a couple trusted vendors off-road.
I shudder to think how much money may have been lost in the last day. Major vendors have gotta be gripping hard.
-
Maybe the servers were in a Sandy area and the backup generators have run out of fuel?
-
Mate, can you get on with your phone?
-
Someone posted a thread in rumor mill claiming SR has been shut down by authorities. Check it out, don't know how legit his "source" is obviously.

SR is a hidden service, so it doesn't use exit nodes. You use exit nodes when exiting the Tor network, like accessing google from your torified browser, hence the word exit.
-
Its in "rumor" mill; I doubt it.
-
it doesnt look good, when i look at my message log while trying to connect this is the error i am getting "[Sat Nov 10 09:27:01 2012] Invalid Destination Hostname - One of your applications tried to establish a connection through Tor to "", which Tor does not recognize as a valid hostname. That claim has zero credibility , he couldn't spell vendor correctly and it was first post , no references whatsoever. Some how doubt he was the first to know about a multimillion dollar business going down the drain.
CHILL THE FUCK OUT GUYS.
It will come back online.

if it is forcing tor to redirect to www.silkroadvb5piz3r.onion could this be a sign that something serious is amiss.

I have never had it automatically add the www. could this be something with windows or the Tor browser bundle? I don't use that, but I suppose I could give it a try to duplicate your problem, it is just one I have never had.

mines doing it and im on OS X so its not windows

Mine is doing it intermittently. If I manually enter silkroadvb5piz3r.onion into my address bar, it won't add it. Sometimes when retrying, it slaps it on there.

^ yup. when it wont connect it will pop it on there and when u try to reload it wont until u delete it,
I think its just the browser throwing it on there, most urls hide the www anyway. So maybe it is there but u just dont see it and thats why its gray???
-
well, the site is down it appears today, I am sure they are working to fix it. people just need to remain calm...remember the outages of last October and this April? I imagine that if something horrible was afoot we would have some more evidence than not being able to connect and throw away nyms claiming a bust. When TFM was taken down, their .onion redirected to the DEA notice of the bust.
relax people! things will get sorted

I think you guys are overreacting with the www thing and trying to understand Tor, but nontheless some really funky IS going on. This isn't normal maintenance face the reality.
-
It isn't "normal maintenance", but outages have happened before, are happening now, and will happen again in the future. the important thing is to not panic. I am as paranoid as they come, but during site outages, it is best not to just get spooked. I trust they are working on the problems.

Sorry to all my clients but I have not been able to acces SR for 24 hrs now.
Please use Wehkampf@tormail.org for pm's.

Hello all,
As a vendor I personally am not worried about individual customers not being able to Finalize etc...
I would use this as a friendly reminder that encrypting your address at checkout is a really good idea. It gives peace of mind that in the worst case scenario all you have to lose is money. I have faith that this is just an outage, but I am also personally assured that all that is at stake for me personally is tens of thousands of dollars and not my name, address etc. which allows me to relax a little bit more...
Now I'm off to enjoy the guilt free outside time ;D

I think that I'll do the same. It's a beautiful fucking day. No need to waste this one clicking refresh periodically. Cheers
-
sat here for 5 hours refreshing, I'm off to use up the rest of my SR goodies and hopefully wake up tomorrow to everything sorted 8) keep the faith.
-
In the supposed case it got shot down by LE; all escrow coins will go to emergency bitcoin address ;)

I also get the non valid domain msg. That is NOT a sign of site maintenance folks, its a sign of some sort of DNS problem, and feds DO have control over it, they dont need a law saying its okay either. Not DDoS either, never saw that w/ previous outages...not looking good, hopefully SR can get around w/e LE's figured out to stop SR like TPB. I guess ill have to get tor emails for vendors...maybe we should start a list? Also, and i have been one of the lazy ones, everyone should use PGP when and if we get back SR. I feel bad for all of us -everyone in the middle of anything. Be safe good people, it's cyber war and we must win. I'm old been in the civil liberties/free speech movement 40 years and have NEVER seen the level of totalitarian bs that mainly the US and it's cabal have sold the sheep as "anti-terrorism." They are coming for TOR/darknet- its the only freedom left. I wish i could do something from here. btw, 95% of conspiracies turn out to be true in history-Remember the Maine? Our gov/LE (the only part of the economy doing well) will stop at nothing, they killed 5000+ at 9/11 to get power. so dont put anything past those evil beings. Would feel better if DPR posted, like to think he's no Sabu., but more like Kim.com and will rally. .onion domains HAVE been busted in the past, guess it was a matter of time...

"Remember the Maine"?
Is that a reference to the Spanish-American War - wow!
-

ya, they told the American ppl it was blown up by Cubans, now we KNOW it was done by the US itself for propaganda to start the war..that made TDR so famous a president. The gov and LE are the evil enemy, stealing our money and criminalizing the truth (WLs)if there was karma, they should be dead.

I do agree that it seems like the government has seized control of our beloved site.

One thinks about all the threats and troubles we can run into only in times like this.
Few suggestions for SR:
- make one's own feedback deletable; even if you clear out your wallet and delete your messages, there is a record of all the feedback written about all your previous purchases
- on that note, accounts should be deletable; we should be able to close down an account for good so there are no traces of it anywhere
- also buyer stats would suggest how active you are on SR, so even if you get caught with an 1/8th, they'll see that you bought $10k worth over 100 transactions and were doing it for months and years...
my two cents

Looks like a Tor issue, I'm seeing a 'Invalid onion hostname' message. Did anyone try the alt URLs?
Tried everysingle of them, and none work. Get the very same browser error as with the main url

9/11 is actually right.. they fucked us .. but whatever..
yeah idk bout this bs.. with sr
it sucks but shit i learned how to use pgp long ago and have no personal info linked with this form or SR...
if you were to lazy to use pgp.. ur a fool
now ur address could possibly be compromised.. and i hate when people post in a new user name to post an opinoin..
speek your fn mind.. what is everyone scared of..
keep it real..

what could having your feedback found hurt? if you were found do you think that having your feedback read aloud in your trial would sway the court decision in any way whatsoever?
deleteable account...why? you are encrypting all of your personal information with pgp before sending it to vendors right? so it doesn't matter if an anonymous site has an account for a nym not connected to you.
buyer stats- refer to above reason why it doesn't matter if the site is seized...you are encrypting all info that links you to your nym, so no matter. BUT vendors can see those stats when you place orders, so in the event of an LE vendor, you are right- if you buy a gram of weed off of a cop, they can see you have spent 20k on the site = likely bigger fish than personal pot smoker, so I always use fresh buyer account with 0 stats for testing out new vendors because even though LE vendor is unlikely, it could happen, so low stats = :) in the event that the vendor is in fact LE
-
Someone posted a thread in rumor mill claiming SR has been shut down by authorities. Check it out, don't know how legit his "source" is obviously.
That claim has zero credibility , he couldn't spell vendor correctly and it was first post , no references whatsoever. Some how doubt he was the first to know about a multimillion dollar business going down the drain.
CHILL THE FUCK OUT GUYS.
It will come back online.
I like your attitude. I certainly hope you're right.

I thought for sure it was going to come back on today ... Ehh couldn't get on since yesterday .. hope they will fix the problem later on today ... Every one is loosing money and drugs lol ....

You get an invalid domain message because you (or your browser) is putting www in front of the onion address. It's a sign of nothing.
-
You have to wonder: if they knew they were going to run into problems due to the growing user base then why were they not able to plan ahead a little better?
Oh well maybe I'm being unfair. It's possible they expected growth but underestimated how fast the new users would be streaming in.

your points make a lot of sense, my wording was imprecise.
i should have added that my suggestions were not related to the fact that the info SR or a vendor might have on me (they don't) could compromise me.
but i was thinking, if for whatever reason my package gets intercepted, because the vendor is careless, someone ratted on me, etc, and LE wants me to log into my SR account in front of them, they can see my past transactions through feedback i put in, and buyer's stats.
i guess rotating accounts or using multiple accounts could minimize the risk of this, but still don't see a point in keeping feedback you gave indefinitely, at least not under your account.
thanks again.

simply stay cool guys 8)
im sure all will be fine ... technical issues or dos attacks are always possible.
great would be a comment from dread ;)

I'm staying positive with this my friends. Keep a positive and optimistic mind. Thinking the worst or negative will only cause more stress. As bad as this is for everyone involved right at the moment, I have faith and until I hear confirmation of what IS actually going on or went on, I will just continue to hope for the best.
Much peace to you all! Keep your heads up!

What would be super-awesome, and I think go a long way to help appease the uncertainty thats is being felt by some in the SR community, is a "Silk Road Status" thread, stickied to the top of the "Silk Road discussion" forum, which can be updated only by DPR or the SR admins, to _confirn_ the current state and availability of Silk Road (Up, Down for Maint, Expected back on line [ in x hours | TBA ] etc).
Updated at the first sign of trouble, or else once or twice daily even if theres no SR trouble (so people can see the information is relatively current). Ofcourse, if the SR forums are down, then we wont be able to see the SR status updates, but SR forums seem to be pretty stable at the moment...

Just to clarify, before reading all of the interesting posts and opinions that go with them (however irrelevant they are), I take it that
-Silk Road is Down
-Probably Due to the Natural Disaster on the East Coast?
...if anyone has any credible information regarding "busts" or investigations by the FBI, I would love to hear anything you know so that I can corroborate it in the system databases.
-
At the moment i feel like im getting shafted good style for $500, its a twat soon as it was loaded i couldn't get on at all.
-
I agree I might of been shafted too then again it may come back up who know just relax everything will be okay

Ah, nice to know I wasn't the only one experiencing problems. This is a tad inconvenient as I was sent some bad doses and am trying to clear that up right now, but the best I suppose I can do is wait.
Also, until I found this thread I had never even considered it a possibility that the authorities had seized the site; this sort of thing happens to me regularly, it was just when it didn't finally give way for like 2 days that I decided something was sketchy. DPR says it's just caused by explosive growth; do we really have any reason to assume the site is compromised? Don't you think the Gov't would rub it in our face with a big FBI stamp on the homepage rather than an connection timeout?
I think we should just chill out until we get word from higher ups. ;-)
-

This is what I thought when I was experiencing problems last week connecting.. No again all of this week myself and everyone else have had the same problems, so I can put the blame on storm Sandy or the NorEaster that followed it.
I'm not network savy enough to even guess at what the problem may be. I find it hard to be that a massive influx of new members in the last 2 weeks are the cause.
I just have no idea right now...

- SR is down for me as of now.
- "Natural Disaster on the East Coast" - If you mean bad weather / Sandy in the usa, i guess that could be a contributing factor (if the Silk Road infrastructure were located there, AFAIK no one except DPR and a trusted few actually know the SR systems location information).

I hope to god its not located in the US... I wouldve thought it was at least somewhere in Russia or Romania.
-
I dont know why DPR or any of the staff spend 5mins and write up a thread with whats going on. That way we could end the speculation and know for sure what the deal is. If shit has hit the fan people need to know and its there responsibility to inform members with up to date info surely imo.

Interesting. trying to connect via a bridge and I get connected, then waiting, then it times out ? anyone else getting this?
can anyone at all connect???

SWEETONE : that mean you can get on ???????????

Hope it's not down... but with the recent increase in media coverage, and a reddit post making the front page about SR the other day I'm not all that surprised. Honestly, it might be time to limit new registrations (at least to a certain number per day) to avoid this in the future. Also might be a good idea to place people who have been inactive for say a month into a vacation mode, where it takes them logging in again to reactivate their account.
Also, the SR is pretty vulnerable to a DDOS. There's nothing stopping people from making accounts, logging in and just hammering the server with a bot. It would take a decent number of people at it, but really not that hard to do since a captcha is the only thing standing in the way.
Also keep in mind that the SR servers could very well be hosted in a similar way to TPB where a VPS company is running them unknowingly behind tons of encryption, and like TPB if said company ever decided it was a little too shady they could pull the plug.
Wait patiently, the forum is still up, which means a lot and DPR almost never updates until they have taken some sort of action to correct the problem and in the past has always updated us once it's fixed.

everyone... just stop and think about it.
"shit" did not "hit the fan".
SANDY hit the fan. if that storm really did do the damage the news says..
then if the servers are out there or anywhere near it..
they are going to experience huge problems..
not to mention "explosive growth".
point being..
there are people up there who have just gotten internet and shit back yesterday and today.
just relax.. maybe DPR can't even get online right now.. who knows what is going on.
the last thing we need is the conspiracy drama to stir up within 48 hours.

i really doubt sandy has anything to do with this.. samdy was long gone before the real problems started croppin up
I think that if i were to speculate that the servers are not located in the us. Hell if i had this type of site and was making bank like this and i was in the jolly ole US land of the corrupt and shackled the first thing i would do is RELOCATE!
sO I WOULD read the issues DPR wrote about on the 1st and chill its only been like 24hrsz! PLUS dont u think if it was wacked by the feds there would be SOME KIND of information about the take down SOMEWHERE...
-
This is a rampant speculation, but it may be that SR is transitioning to a cloud-based design like Pirate Bay, to make it raid-proof. Essentially, Pirate Bay no longer exists as a discrete set of servers, all request to this website are farmed out to cloud servers throughout the world, and the owners of these cloud servers may not even now that they are hosting a part of pirate bay.
If SR was doing this, they obviously would not want this information to be public knowledge.

DPR says it's just caused by explosive growth; do we really have any reason to assume the site is compromised? Don't you think the Gov't would rub it in our face with a big FBI stamp on the homepage rather than an connection timeout?
No, they would collect as much info as possible about all the users. Possibly reopen the site with hacked vendor accounts to gather info. They can be very patient.

If you can't count properly your risk/opportunity balance, don't blame me for that. But it's only my noobish trash talking, sorry for that once more, but i think we all know what is the reason we are here, and i think talking to much is not the remedy.
