Title: PGP... I just don't get it.
Post by: jah123 on August 31, 2012, 11:13 pm
I just don't get PGP.

What to I need to send a 'PGP message' or whatever?
How?
Can I practice with myself, using 2 'keys' as people call them?

Would it be okay to just use self destruct notes for my address instead of PGP? i.e. Privnote.

Looking for some help with this...

Go to the PGP Club thread in my signature. Read it some of it. Then apply the instructions or PM Pine, Louis or Guru.

You can indeed do a make believe scenario to shuffle messages back and forth between an Alice and a Bob, but most people prefer to practice with somebody real in order to make sure they've got it down properly.

You may not use Privnote. If you do, save us the time and just email: helpmeImadrugdealer@fbi.gov

This is not Topix. Here we have certain principals we live by. For example: not getting busted by being lazy and using privnote.

Thanks

Pine

Ok Pine... I have created a key with the username 'jah123'... I saved your key block as a .txt file and imported it into GPA, and now 'PHPClubRevolution (Welcome Comrade!) shows up along with  nosuchemail@nowhere....

I tried sending a message but I don't know if it has worked... I tried following the tutorial I found the best I could. Let me know.

Excellent! And have you made a PGP public key? If you have PM it to me.

I have no message from you in my inbox that I can see. I'll send you a small tutorial, maybe that will help. Are you using Linux/Windows or Mac?

Install the software for your OS, such as GPG4Win on Windows or GPGTools on Mac.

Yes.

Absolutely not!  Privnote is a massive security risk.

Head over to PGP Club, it's now a stickied thread in the Security section and practice there.  There are multiple guides here on the forum too, but the best one to direct you towards depends on your operating system.
