Title: Kleopatra GnuPGP, Key location
Post by: Cozmo on August 09, 2012, 02:39 am
Alright, i decided to upgrade my security to truecrypt. Not that my current security wasn't sufficient its just that i wanted more. Some how my GnuPGP and Kleopatra files got corrupted during the transfer. So i had to reinstall, and tell everyone that i had i new key, and rebuild my key library etc.
Upon reinstalling all my keys were still there after corrupting the original GNUPGP and Kleopatra and completely formatting.
So the keys are somewhere on my system. I do not want this, i would like them on the flash drive i am using. How do i find them? And make sure all files of these keys have been removed?

Open a Terminal/shell/DOS prompt and type:

gpg --version

Wherever the "Home:" location is is where the secring.gpg and pubring.gpg files are for your operating system.  If they're all safely backed up then destroy the contents of that directory with the file wiping utility of your choice (options vary according to operating system type).

On *nix systems: cp
On Windows: drag and drop

Or rather, where do i put the files in the gnuPG folder on the flash drive?

Anywhere you want.  I recommend making a gnupg/ or .gnupg/ folder in your main folder on the flash drive.

Sorry i'm asking the wrong question, How do i change that "Home" address to the flash drive?

gpg --homedir /path/to/usb/gnupg

ok it said it created a set of those files, and says "gpg: Go ahead and type your message ..."
i just closed the window. And when i checked gpg --version again, it was still set to the default users/appdata etc. etc.

It always will.  The --homedir flag changes it for the one time when that flag is used, it is not a permanent change.

If you want a permanent change look into GPG4USB.

Yep, that sounds right for GPG4Win.
