Post by: yipster on August 08, 2012, 07:59 pm
Any pros/cons for using safe-mail vs tormail? Or are there better options? Appreciate any feedback, thank you all.

safe-mail requires javascript
tormail could be a honeypot
fwiw, they both could be honeypots

use PGP, always.

I read safe-mail had some secret code going on a vendor outside of SR. When you hit reply to the emails, if you scroll down in the email address spot for the reply it was also going to the admin of safe-mail along with the person that was suppose to get it.

That would be a really stupid way to copy mail when you can just get the MTA to copy mail to another account without the user having any chance of discovering it.

So it's sounding like the consensus is that tormail, while not perfect, is the least of evils? Of course always using PGP is a no brainer, but always bears repeating for those new to the sight that are unaware. More thoughts anyone???

Guru swears by nym servers and I see his point, but it depends on the level of effort you're willing to go to.

Thank you Guru, that is exactly the type of thing I need to know!
You're right that would be really dumb... however I've heard the same things from multiple sources, one of whom has even posted a screenshot of an email header that was copied to the admin. I wouldn't touch Safe-Mail with a  barge-pole.
