UPDATE (08/04 07:41 UTC): We've applied yet another fix to the forum login issue. Sleep beckons, so we'll see how it is holding up in the morning.
UPDATE: Looks like the forum login glitch is back. I'll keep you updated as we work on fixing it.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
We've been working through two problems and I think we have them fixed at last. The first was a problem logging into these forums. The second was deposits not showing up on the main site.
Regarding the login problems here, our forums software tries to keep out spammers by limiting how often a login attempt can be made from a single IP address. Because the Silk Road forums is a hidden service, all requests appear to be coming from the same IP address, so either someone figured this out and decided to hammer the login, or membership grew to the point that normal logins were being interpreted as spam. In any case, we've patched the code and this should no longer be an issue.
Regarding deposits, we should be fully caught up now. If you haven't received a recent deposit, and you have messaged support about it, please DO NOT message again. We are working through a bunch of support tickets and we WILL get to yours. If you haven't messaged support about a missing deposit, please give it a good 6 hours before doing so.
Thank you for your patience, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for coming and clarifying this DPR, was getting loads of messages about this when it's nothing to do with me lol.
Good to know it's all sorted! :)
-
DPR, I have been trying to get ahold of you through Vendor Support. Would you please message me with your updated public key on the regular site? There have been some other small problems, mainly with the "account" $ -> BTC conversions and an incident I had when this phantom BTC price spike happened.
Thanks

Yay :D

Thanks for the update DPR! It is appreciated.
I am assuming the deposit issue was it needing to repopulate the block chain history.
For those that do not know, the UNIX daemon for doing bitcoin can corrupt the local block chain if it exits wrong. I found this out playing with the daemon on a local Linux server. Working on an online wallet interface with php. If it happens it will have to re-download the whole block chain and that can take a couple of days. Luckily it does not happen often ;)
DRP, Thank you for all your hard work!

Thanks for the update ;D

Awesome job, thanks for the info!

As we wished :)

thanks for the update and signing your post.

we never lost hope! Thanks for the update....... ;D

About 20 minutes ago the coins finally hit my account. THEN 10 minutes later, they were gone again!! Has this happened to anyone else?
-
Thank you, DPR!
-
Thank you, didn't bother formally reporting since I saw forum complaints and therefore knew it would be fixed as per usual. Love you guys!

lol, I get way more praise when we fix problems than when we preempt them and everything goes smooth :P Sorry for this slip-up gang

When I first read this thread, I was unable to log in, but then after reading this thread I tried again and it works!
I'm still gonna hold off a bit to transfer BTC, but I knew the team was hard at work correcting the issues at hand.
SR SUPPORT/DPR/ADMINS-You all never cease to amaze me. Thank you so much.

FYI, some people got double credit on their missing deposits. The total amount isn't enough to warrant going through and correcting each individual one, so I'm going to leave it up to the honor system. Please return any extra funds you were credited to this address:

Look at the volume of people using Silk Road now as compared to normal Friday night and you'll see that's not correct.
Never underestimate the value of consistency, even consistency that isn't perfect than a website that starts and stops and breaks then works.

That's one of the problems with democracy; politicians get credit for fixing problems, but not for preventing them, even though preventing them is at least 20x more cost effective...
-
Thanks for the update DPR, I'm sure most of us knew you guys were fixing them asap but with all these new members pouring in they're causing havoc on the forums with new threads every second freaking out :D
-
Any chance you guys can work on making the value of the BTC on the silk road match the actual real time value of the BTC on Mtgox/ect?

That's impossible and unrealistic. People just need to wait for Mt. Gox to calm down and take their time.

It happened to me too! I think it might have been related to me purchasing an item though.=D

Haha, this was me. I logged in hoping my 100 BTC deposit had gone through, and I casually look up to see 200 BTC waiting in my account. My jaw dropped to the floor, but once I realized what had happened, I figured spending it would be a bad idea. DPR deserves every penny! Thanks for all the updates and fixing every problem as it comes, you're the best.

Well done on the response time. I'm very happy with the older members of the site as well. I noticed that the only people posting in the threads regarding deposits not showing were newer accounts. I'm assuming Silk Road is a true test of faith in DPR. You've earned mine.

^ This, you hit the nail, man.

Thanks for your work to correct the issues, but your claim the forum issue has been fixed is incorrect.
The 2 second error is still appearing, took me forever to log in. PLEASE look into the problem further.

I still cannot log in either. Like microRNA said, PLEASE look deeper into this.

Spending that would've been the biggest slap in the face to yourself.

Just able to log in after 20mins. Little glitches are expected, so not all that much to worry about.

DRP, Thank you for all your hard work!
A few days is quite a long time to process the block chain -- you may want to double check your setup. A fresh install of the reference client (bitcoin-qt) can download and process the entire blockchain in a 1.5-2 hours. Some of the other clients can do it in as little as 45 minutes.

I agree. Although I have now finally logged on, the only way I could do it was to click on "Log-In", click "Forgot Password" and reset my password using the secret question method. I am then able to access the Forum by clicking "Log-In". I still feel there may be an issue requiring further investigation.

ungrateful mammal is ungrateful
See, this is the reason it's a good thing everybody here is anonymous. That's the only way we can engage in real, geninue market transactions on the black market. Otherwise your typical supplier of product would have broken your neck just to send a message.

Ah, that makes a good deal of sense. Thanks for the explanation.
Also good to see a nice, valid signature. :)

that or give him pure H instead of the cut shit hes used to and not tell him :D
Why waste purity on a hot shot when strychnine works just as well ...

I'm sure you guys are joking around, but let's cut this line of thought short, shall we?

That's impossible and unrealistic. People just need to wait for Mt. Gox to calm down and take their time.
Out of curiosity, why do you believe it is impossible and unrealistic to have the BTC value to be taken from Mt.Gox in real time? (In general that is, I'm not talking about specific problems or the recent spike).
From what I gather, it should actually be quite easy to match prices in real time.
That said, others have made very good arguments for why it *should not* be done in real-time; the most common being that bitcoin is to volatile at the moment, and that an average price is much easier to use for commerce.
I really am curious though -- is there another aspect here that makes it unrealistic/impossible?
