Title: Samples
Post by: waffleking on June 29, 2012, 04:10 pm
Recently there have been a lot of new potential vendors popping up and offering free samples.   No harm there, but I've noticed in the forums that a lot of people requesting samples are established vendors and go out of their way to point this out.

If you were LE and wanted to collect the addresses of some vendors rather than buyers, you would now have a great collection of vendor addresses with pretty minimal effort.

Hope this doesn't fall into the tin hat category.  Just want everyone to stay safe.   And I'm pretty sure there is a post right on SR telling vendors to not use their vendor accounts for purchases.  Should be the same for claiming samples, right?

Actually no, they would not have any address since no vendor is stupid enough to write down his own address on the letter.

Hopefully they'd also unpack it before taking it home.  Wouldn't want to discover too late that there's a GPS tracker in there too.

They would also be committing Entrapment. That's why they send other people into a drug house to make a buy and when they set up fake prostitutes they never offer service they have to wait until the John makes an offer. They would actually have to ship you illegal substance for you to get busted for possession. The jack ass that bought a fake bag of weed or blow is guilty of nothing, because he didn't get anything.

Entrapment isn't a defence in every jurisdiction.  It probably is in America, but there's a lot of the world left where that tactic would not only work, but would be accepted as evidence.

I appreciate this discussion. Lots of people know a lot more than me!

As far as I know "entrapment" is pretty much accepted in the US these days. There was a time when that could be used to get charges dropped, but not so much anymore. At least in my part of the country.

It all comes down to the judge. If they allow it, you can pretty much nail your ass to the wall.

I don't think this is about entrapment.  If LE can locate and/or identify a vendor, they could presumably then catch him in the act of packaging or mailing product.  Don't think that would be entrapment.

Yep.

I think too many TV shows showed drug deals with one person asking the other if they were a cop and then explaining entrapment to someone else.  Unsurprisingly LE decided to circumvent that.

That's true.  It would be more likely that once a vendor was located they would be placed under surveillance to get more evidence and/or locate that vendors sources.

Which is why any sensible vendor (it's not paranoia, LE is out to get them) will never purchase or obtain samples through their vendor account.  That's part of the price of being a vendor.

It would only be entrapment if they tried to arrest them for possession of the sample. If they simply got the address of a vendor by saying they would send him a sample, then raided him on the grounds that he is an SR vendor who gave them his address then he'd be pretty fucked.

samples equal greed...

greed has been filling prison cells since prison cells have existed...

any vendor using his vendor account to order product or request samples probably needs a 6'x4' vacation to get his mind right...

Agreed.  One of the greatest demonstrations of discipline is knowing when to stop and then doing so.

Buyers need to beware as well. It seems that trolls--possibly of LE origin--have been offering up free samples only to post the prospective buyer's address. In case anyone hasn't noticed, there's a thread containing an address atop this very forum (security) as well as a few others. If you view the OP's posts, you'll see that he offered free samples prior to posting that address. No one is going to break down your door for this (well at least not LE), though it can serve as a deterrent to free sample seekers if they keep it up.

Would that be the Buldog situation or are there multiple offenders now?
