PGP was the first, created by Phil Zimmermann which is why the name is used for everything. PGP is a proprietary software package currently owned by Symantec. GPG is a free software package written by g10/Werner Koch in Germany.Thank you very much for this info. How does vendors on SR use PGP if it costs above $100 on Symantec site? Is there cracked edition on the net or sellers use the GPG free software?I'm asking because one vendor asked me to use the PGP while I didn't have any idea what it is.Most people use GPG, including the vendors, but they generally just call it PGP. The reasons why they shouldn't is just far too irritating to explain to each person on a case-by-case basis, so I usually don't.Just install the right version of GPG for your operating system and go from there. Read through all of the stickied threads in the Security forum too and use PGP Club (one of the stickied threads) to practice once you have it installed and your key ready.
