People use Pidgin to access Jabber accounts (as well as other IM protocols)...silc plugin in pidgin versus any jabber enabled client (including pidgin)?!there are numerous protocols that can be enabled in pidgin depending on where you got it from, which were included and the facebook etcones you've added.Right, I misread what you were saying and had forgotten about SILC (haven't even looked at it in at least a couple of years).SILC is currently trying to become a standard protocol, but still hasn't even made it to an initial RFC. Unlike XMPP (Jabber) which has at least four initial RFCs, three of which have been superceded by more recent ones. This is at least indicative of a greater degree of effort being devoted to XMPP.SILC appears to have some other limitations, such as only supporting SHA-1 and MD5 hashes. The crypto FAQ on their site indicated there are a number of items supported by the protocol which their own software does not yet support (e.g. using OpenPGP keys or SSH keys). Which reminds me why I stopped looking at it: it's a good idea, but not ready for production use.
