Title: Retrieving, Renaming or Deleting a Verified Forum Account
Post by: Burning Babylon on July 14, 2013, 12:03 pm
Recently I created a new branch of Burning Babylon named Oneiros Distribution: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?action=profile;u=78232 along with a corresponding Silk Road account and PGP key.
I somehow lost the password to the Forum Account and because of that revamped my security measures so the same would not happen for the Silk Road Account itself and the PGP key.

I did some searching on the subject of retrieving a Forum Account and there were some mixed signals. The thread Lost access to original forum account - PGP key proof: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=129683 seems to indicate it's possible to retrieve the account, the thread Forum member - android465764E. LOST PASSWORD.: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=122235 seems to indicate it might be possible to retrieve the account while the thread Can a moderator help me? Lost the password to an old account.: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=158533 indicates it's not possible.

I managed to post one thread with my lost Forum Account named Vendor Thread - Oneiros Distribution: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=181563
I Included the PGP key both for Burning Babylon and Oneiros Distribution in it so I can still prove I'm both of them if needed. I also have control of the vendor account linked in the Signature Field which I activated it as a Vendor Account very recently.

I see three solutions that I would see as advantageous:

1) The Forum Account is Retrieved by an administrator/moderator either resetting the password or putting the e-mail oneirosdistribution@fastmail.fm as the active address so I can do reset myself.
The e-mail can be confirmed as the correct one as it's listed in my public PGP key for Oneiros Distribution - it can be seen at the end of the thread here: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=181563

2) The Forum Account is renamed so I have the ability to create a new Forum Account with the exact same name.

3) The Forum Account is deleted so I have the ability to create a new Forum Account with the exact same name.

For proof I still have access to both PGP keys:

I thought I'd create this thread so there can be a final answer on what is possible and not and if there are any circumstances which could change the situation.
Whatever the outcome anyone who stumbles upon this thread in the future will hopefully know for sure how the possible process works.  :)

In your situation it may be possible, normally it is not due to issues with verification of ownership.

I will forward a link to this thread to an admin and see if they may be able to assist you, no guarantees though.

We do not reset forum passwords as a matter of course for the reason mentioned by samesamebutdifferent above, but we can do so in situations where we can verify that somebody is indeed the owner - PGP signing a message with a PGP key that was previously posted by the account one is trying to access is the PERFECT way to do that. :)

I've gone ahead and changed the password of 'Oneiros Distribution' and PM'd the new password to you. Please change it the moment you log in.
