Title: Confused? Vendor asking for pictures of product?
Post by: isthereanyneed on June 05, 2013, 09:39 am
I am pretty confused at the moment, I got an order through from an O/S vendor for 20 grams of hash and it was short by 8 grams, I contacted the vendor immediately to tell him that my order arrived but was missing 8 grams but the other 12 grams arrived ok.

I have not Finalized the order yet because it is not all here.

The vendor has said sorry and that he will fix this problem but has said I need to send him a picture of the hash to confirm my order? Now please correct me if I am wrong but what is this going to prove and how is this going to help? Its a very strange request, I told the vendor I dont understand and why is there a need to send him a picture of the hash but no reply.

Should I be prepared to take this to resolve if needs be?

Thanks in advance.

I don't see what that's going to prove. I would explain it to him nicely and if he doesn't understand then let it go to resolution.

You should take this issue to resolution and cease all communication with the vendor outside of the resolution center.

Thanks but after some thought on the matter, I dont want to be taking this to resolution for the sake of $110 and have my stats effected plus the vendor sells amazing product so ideally I would want to use him again. He is a well respected vendor with over 1 year on sr and in top 3 % of vendors.
I just dont see how me sending a picture of the product will help, maybe he got confused some how, hope he sees sense and sorts this out it would be a shame on all counts to end up dragging this out.

I have messaged vendor to tell him to reship or refund.
Will update when I know more.

possibly to prove that you're telling the truth? i have no experience with hash and i dunno what it even looks like but im guessing if 50% of it is missing it would be half as "big".

one vendor once sent me the totally wrong product (tempazepam instead of diazepam) and asked for a photo of what i received, i guess this just proves to the vendor that i have in fact received the vendor's tempaz instead of the diazepam and that confirms he has made a mistake and then sorts it out.

it's kind of confirming the mistake. if i bought the same 20g product from him and it turned up fine, but then i said only half of it came i would be unable to provide a picture since i would have to take a picture of the full 20g?

forgive me if this is a stupid explanation and hash is easy to split up (and thus fake the 12g photo), but i think he is just asking for photo proof that he sent the wrong thing before he sends somebody an extra 8g.

if you're worried, there are Onion service web hosts and you can strip all the data from JPGs using online services too so it willl be untraceable, then use PGP to encrypt the file address.

How would a photo prove he was telling the truth, sure it could be useful in the case of wrong product sent but it's be easy for someone claiming only half the order arrived to simply take the full order that arrived and take half of it out of the packaging. That is hypothetical only assuming the buyer wasn't honest that is. Can't really see how a picture would help in your situation.

In your case I agree a photo would be helpful as if proves you were actually sent the wrong product however in this case it is pointless as if I were trying to scam an extra 8 grams all I would have to do is take a picture of a 2 gram chunk then send it as proof which is why this does not make any sense, it does not prove anything and is not helpful in the slightest in fact it makes no sense what so ever.

Kind of curious why you suggest that ?
The vendor sounds reasonable and is willing to help....

While the request sounds pretty pointless, maybe just do it if it makes him happy.. Just remember to remove all the meta data from the pic.

*edit* I'm not very familiar with hash, but doesn't it usually come in a solid block sort of form ? Maybe he just wants to check the shape, see if it looks like its been broken in half or some crap ?

I thought the same, unless Libertas knows something we dont, maybe this vendor has tried this stalling tactic before, who knows but for now he is playing ball and seems to be helpful, we shall soon see.........

Yeah, as I said I have very limited knowledge of the product OP was describing and thought maybe it could be obvious if he had cut his product in half, therefore a photo would verify that it was sent as a "whole" 12g? If it doesn't make sense no worries, was just my first thought!

A friend of mine is a vendor on SR and he deals with product distribution whereas another deals with the online/customer service/etc so it could even be that the go-to response for an incorrect order is "please send a picture". Who knows!

Take a pic, strip it of EXIF data, upload to Onion service and send it with URL encrypted with PGP if it helps your transaction move along. If you're uncomfortable with that, take to resolution centre. Sounds like a weird request but if the vendor is gonna be awkward then those are your options.

ER.

@ OP

I think this is a reasonable request from the vendor. You can safely and anonymously send him a photo of the product and package. They probably asked to view the package to confirm they sent you the wrong package. Many vendors like myself package larger orders using different materials so there would be a purpose in the vendor viewing the photo.

I only have the hash, all packaging/evidence is destroyed same day.

How do I safely take a photo of this hash?

You need to remove the meta data that's attached to digital photo's -  WARNING - CLEARNET LINK FOLLOWS ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metadata_removal_tool ) .

Then you can upload it an .onion image uploader ` like this one http://xfq5l5p4g3eyrct7.onion/ or this one  http://i7hknwg4up2jhdkx.onion/ .

Then send them the link to the image .

I'm not saying to disregard libertas's advice however - but that's how you would do it , if you wanted to .

Update*

Vendor has come good and promised to resend missing amount, will update again if anything changes but I think it will be ok, I sent him a pic and he said it all checked out, still not sure what he was looking for though.

Thanks for all the advice with pics.

Libertas just a note here, not having a go but it might be a good idea to ask a little bit more about the vendor before advising to take things to resolution, I mean I knew not to take it to reslution unless things got really bad but newbies listen to everything mods say and this would of caused problems if a buyer completely cut off comms from a vendor for a fairly small thing, just friendly advice try and get the whole picture first as completely cutting off comms to a vendor should only be in extreme cases in my opinion.

Sounds like I am having a go but really I am not. Thanks for everything folks.

Silk Road recommends that an order is placed into resolution if there is ANY issue with it - that is the only way we can protect you if something is / goes wrong; please see the SR Wiki here:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#My_order_hasn.27t_arrived_or_it.27s_not_what_I_expected.

Quote
My order hasn't arrived or it's not what I expected.

If your order hasn't come after waiting 10 days, you should click "resolve" next to it on your orders page. This will put the order into resolution. Read all of the instructions in the Resolution Center, and try to come to an agreeable resolution with your vendor.

The instructions in the resolution center tell you to keep all communication about the resolution inside the resolution center so as an administrator has all the information available to them when making their decision.

Libertas is right on the $.  It sucks, but using the resolution center for this type of stuff is crucial.  I will also chime in with: Do not finalize till you guys come to an agreement.

Will update when I know more.

The vendor is selling 20 grams of hash for $110? I just bought a gram for like $25, its some really good hash but now I kinda wish I had shopped around.

No 10 grams works out at 110.

I ordered 10 and 2 arrived along with another 10 grams of 2 different types so 5,5,10 g.

I have not FE and dont intend to, thanks for the help guys and Libertas yeah always best to air on the side of caution.

Will update when its all done and dusted and vendor sends the outstanding amount.
