Title: Login Problems
Post by: acehace on June 03, 2013, 05:07 am
I just joined SR about 1 week ago, and made my first order and did FE and all on the vendor, then yesterday I tried logging in and after about 60-70 attempts between yesterday and today, I have finally decided to create a new account and try to get help. Why would this happen, though? Even if someone phished the account, they couldn't change the password, could they?

If you gave your login info to a phishing site, then, yes, the person could log into your account and change the password, and the PIN.

SR will never ask you for your PIN at login.  Always make sure you are accessing SR from the correct url:

EDIT:

At this point, you'll need to send SR Support a message from your new account.  Be sure to give them as much info as you can to prove the account is yours - including the last btc address you used and the last btc deposit you made.  Here's a direct link to sending them a message:

Hello,

I'm not able to login into my primary account. I did create my first account a few days ago and made a deposit into it today. Now I tried to login to see if my deposit has arrived, but always got the message "Login failed".

Can you help me and reset my password, so that it will work again? Account is D4rKJunK , can provide history of deposit and address, too, if needed.

Best regards,
PoKeRsHaRkY

Already done, but no reply, maybe it is possible to lock the account until I get a new password!!!

I'm sorry, but only SR Support can help with account issues like these.  :(  You'll just need to wait until you hear back from them.  How long ago did you message them?  Did you provide info about your last btc deposit?

Well, I'm a little pissed off, I'm sur that I didn't give any information on my account on a phishing site and never was asked for a pin when I tried to login before. All was fine and worked nice, until the point I made my first deposit. For me it looks like the site is rigged and it's a big scam. As I have seen on blockexplorer, the money has arrived and within the 21/2 hours of not able to login it was transferred to another account!

What you're seeing on blockexplorer with the money arriving and then moving to another account is evidence of SR's built-in bitcoin tumbler in action.  That's how it will always look on blockexplorer / blockchain.

OK, I'm a newbie in SR and buying with BC.
This it what it looks at blockexplorer:
http://blockexplorer.com/address/
So, you think my BC are still available if I will get my primary account?

Sorry, my english isn't the best.

This has been occurring on and off. It's not a security risk so it's nothing to worry about - a little irritating at times is all. Rest assured it's being worked on. :)

Anyone here, who can tell me how long it will take, to get reply by support on my current issue?

I'm just wondering, if I will see my BTC in my account again, or if my account really is hacked, the hacker got enough time to figure out my PIN :-(

You might be waiting up to 48 hours for a reply from SR Support - this period can be shorter or longer depending on how many messages are ahead of yours in the support queue.

It is impossible that your account got "hacked", but if you were using a simple password then it is highly unlikely though technically possible that somebody has managed to brute-force your password. If they managed to do this and you used a simple PIN, it is again highly unlikely though technically possible that they could brute-force that as well. Keep in mind that brute-forcing a relatively simple password could take hundreds of years, so a successful brute-force attack on your passphrase AND your PIN would be incredibly unlikely.

The most likely scenario - though I know you swear it impossible - is that you entered your details into a phishing site. There are some phishing sites that ask for your login details and use them to log you in to the main site (to make you think nothing is wrong) before withdrawing your BTC.

In short, there is no way for us to know if your Bitcoin remains in your account or not. You will have to wait until Support get back to you and you regain access to your account.

In the meantime, please read the Silk Road Wiki, specifically the 'Trust & phishing' entry:

The last thing I did, before I made the deposit, was following this step:

Quote
Warning: Read this before making a deposit to your account

Your PIN is required to make purchases, withdraw funds from your account, and make important changes to your account. If you forget your PIN, or give it away to a phishing site impersonating Silk Road, any funds you deposit to your account will be irretreivable.

Before depositing any funds, you should change your PIN and password on your SETTINGS page. If you are unable to change them because you've already forgotten them, you must create a new account and try again.

So if it really is highly unlikely through technically possible to brute-force my PIN, my Bitcoins should be save and still available when I got my access back!
Anyway, I still have to wait for response of support and will update later.

Edit: All fine, I have access again to my primary account and bitcoins are still available. The only thing, I have to wait for 55 hours, to change the PIN again, looks like someone tried to steal them!

Thanks for support

I'm also having problems logging in, though only via mobile device. It works fine on a PC. I've hard reset, uninstall/reinstalled orbot & orweb, repeatedly checked the URL, etc. Kind of at a loss for what the problem could be. Do I need to alter something in settings or is this a cryptogenic cryptography issue?

i also am not able to log in - this is day #2.
i have been using SR for awhile & everything had been working pretty smooth.
thanks for the info - scout & libertas.  i am going to try log in a few more times, maybe this is just lingering from last maintenance work.
i'm hoping i don't have to get support to help with new account info.
