Hi shutdem,

You have entered your password and PIN on a phishing site; please note that Silk Road will never ask you for your PIN, and you should not be attempting to access Silk Road on any site other than silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

You will have to follow the reset process like everybody else - please do NOT store personal information in your Silk Road account. That is an outrageous thing to do! :o

You can read more about the password reset process here:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#I_forgot_my_passphrase.

You will then have to reset your PIN:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=PIN

Unfortunately there's nothing more than can be done from our end. You will simply have to message SR Support with the information they require (set out in the first link above) and wait for them to get back to you about it. Every member is responsible for their own security, and personal responsibility is key to keeping yourself safe here.

You need to create a new Silk Road account and message SR Support at the following link with the last address you deposited bitcoins to, along with any other information that can help us connect you to the account:

http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/messages/send_message/104259

There is no way to freeze the account in this kind of situation, I'm afraid. Please also note that Support are currently experiencing a 48 hour backlog so you may not hear back from them before then.

Hi shutdem,

Unless you had an incredibly weak password and PIN (such as 123456789 etc.) then there is no way that your account was compromised by an attack. The ONLY ways that your account could have been compromised is if you entered your login details (including your PIN, which Silk Road will NEVER ask you for at login time) into a phishing site, or else allowed a keylogger / datalogger to be installed or downloaded onto your system.

You need to memorise the correct URL - silkroadvb5piz3r.onion - as there are a number of scam sites out there with "silkroad" in the URL that ask you for your PIN when you're logging in. The reason you could not log in to the site when you tried to change your passphrase is because the phishers had already changed it to prevent you from having access to it once you had logged out.

You will need to message SR Support with the last SR deposit address that you sent money to, along with anything else (transactions, messages etc.) that you can remember. The phisher's also have your former passphrase due to you giving it to them when you tried to log in at the phishing site so that isn't really any use.

I hate to have to say it but every member is responsible for their own security; ensuring that you are visiting the correct Silk Road URL at all times and ensuring that there is no malware on your computer is basic, essential security practice. This has been a hard and expensive lesson for you to learn, but as Bitcoin transactions are irreversible there is no way we can get the Bitcoin back for you. :(

Should we keep that much money (bitcoins) in our account?  Is it safer to keep them in a wallet outside of SR ?  The hassle is if you see something you want to purchase on SR it can take several hours for your bitcoins to show up and your item can be gone.

You should absolutely not be keeping that much Bitcoin in ANY online wallet. Keep them under your OWN control, secured in an encrypted wallet on a local client with multiple encrypted backups both locally and in the cloud / email.

If you wish to keep them in your Silk Road wallet in case you miss out on something that is entirely up to yourself, but best practice is to keep your Bitcoin under your own control at all times. Personally I only keep about $150 maximum in my account at any one time - if I want to make a large purchase I send BTC to my account and buy whatever I'm interested in buying the second they arrive. Your Bitcoin are only every truly safe when they're under YOUR control, and protected with the necessary security measures.

shutdem, given that you have told me that your Mt.Gox accounts were also emptied it is obvious that yuour computer's security has been compromised and it is not a Silk Road issue. I've directed you to the appropriate places in order for you to regain access to your account so am locking this thread as resolved.
