Title: questions about a resend/refund
Post by: 0BMX on May 21, 2013, 10:06 pm
Hi,
The vendor in question had some packages intercepted, including mine. He could be unlucky or he isn't capable of making a good stealthy package (, he's quite new on SR).
Anyway, I can get a 50% refund or a resend.  A.t.m. I'm not sure what to do?

1. When I ask for a resend, because my package didn't arrive, do I have to FE for the resend?
1b. What happens if the resend doesn't arrive, due to another interception?

2. When I ask for a refund, who decides what the refund % is?

Thanks in advance.

Hi 0BMX,

Please read the following section of the SR Wiki:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#Order_questions

We recommend that buyers never, ever FE. Work everything out inside the resolution center. If the buyer refuses to do a resend unless you FE, and you choose to do that, Silk Road will not be able to protect you as the resend will not be held in escrow due to the fact that it won't be a paid order going through the Silk Road system. The vendor will simply be sending out your product again - there will be no trace of this on Silk Road's end, nor any way to confirm it.

If his package is "intercepted" again, or otherwise fails to reach you, you will be left with nothing at all. Again, Silk Road can only protect you on orders within escrow. When you FE, you are willfully removing the protection that escrow provides.

The administrator decides what the refund % will be, and takes all the evidence at his/her disposal into account when deciding the rate; that is all contained in the link I provided above.

I was a bit worried about that part what to do, when/if he would ask for a FE. I couldn't get a clear answer from the wiki. I knew that I normally don't have to FE, but I thought there where exceptions.

Anyway, so if I get it right, when I ask for a resend it's all or nothing. And when I ask for a refund we'll split the costs (that's what the vendor offers me atm).
But when I get a refund it will end up on my purchasing stats, and with less then 10 successful transactions my refund rate will jump to 20% or so (I think). I would be nice if I could calculate this so I know what it will be.

The problem is that I don't trust his/her stealth package and the best option would be to ask for a refund. But with a possibly 20% refund rate in my stats it could get me into trouble with other vendors, so maybe I should take the risk and ask for a resend. I maybe end up with nothing but my stats stay clean for the future.

Pfff, the lesson I've learned is that I don't pick up any new vendors for my orders for a while. I see now that testing the waters is a risky venture.

Yes, with a resend it's all or nothing and you are trusting that the vendor will indeed send the item. When you ask for a refund you will receive either a partial or full refund depending on the administrator's decision in the matter. It will end up on your purchasing stats, and though I have no information on the exact method of how it is calculated, you can read more on it here:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#Why_are_my_stats_incorrect.3F

Please note that as the above is 'weighted' toward the present and the size of your recent transactions - recent refunds count for more than refunds from long ago and the size of your purchases will affect the rate - so your refund rate may look quite different than the 20% you expect.

If you do not trust the vendor's stealth then I imagine it would be better to ask for a refund; you can message other vendors to explain the reason for your refund rate before placing orders with them.

EDIT: Thread locked as resolved.
