Hi bananapretzel,

Welcome to the community! :)

Please read all of the pages on the SR Wiki if you haven't done so already as they contain vital information that you'll need to know to keep yourself (and your money!) safe here:

I've heard about SR for so long, but I never imagined it would be so legitimate and comprehensive.  I thought I was experienced but I haven't even heard of half the goodies available here.  Like a kid in a candy store lol.

Thank you :D  Before I signed on I read pretty much everything I could find, so I feel pretty good about things so far.  I've got some BC into my wallet successfully, so now I'm happily browsing.  IMO the trickiest part was finding PGP software that wasn't ridiculous, but I landed on GPG4USB by searching around on here.  Without this Forum I'd still be clueless about the whole thing so thanks for keeping it going.

i just switched from gpg4win to gpg4usb from positive reviews and i'm glad i did. way better software layout and easier to use. plus no clipboard glitches as of yet.
yah these forums have helped me a lot especially when it comes to computer security.

Hello everybody!

seems to be a great place here ))

I am not very good in computers' programs but I hope I'll manage to learn how to use FE, PGP and escrow.
I have been reading about those 3 things but honestly did not get a slightest idea what they all mean.....

somebody has a hint where to find all this info about them?

Hola and welcome bananapretzel,

I'm quite new myself (5 months), but have done quite a few transactions and they have all gone well - read, read, read, the wiki, the forums, the vendor reviews, and trust in the authorative voices of Scout and Libertas on the forums. Don't give anything away that identifies you and make sure you only access through Tor itself and not through proxies, that is what I have learned here.

Good times ahead, take care.

hello blackya

FE means to finalize early. the term finalize is used when talking about finalizing a transaction on SR. you place an order, seller ships order, you receive order and then finalize it releasing your funds from escrow to the seller. when you FE, your releasing the funds early, before the seller ships. this is done for many reasons but not recommended by SR.

escrow is any third party that holds money for 2 sides making a transaction. in this case its SR. its used to protect buyers from getting ripped off.

pgp/gpg is a form of encryption for text and files. on SR its used to send sensitive information from buyer to sender, usually shipping addresses.

its very important you read the silkroad wiki, its fully of information that will make the process easier to understand.
i dont have the link of hand but it i find it i will update. if you hunt around or ask i'm sure it wont be hard to track down.

Thanks for the love everybody, I've never been happier with the internet.

Blackya I found this tutorial on the forums, it's about how to use the PGP software I found to be the easiest: http://32yehzkk7jflf6r2.onion/gpg4usb/

To give due credit, it's by astorx

Instead of making my own post and I'll piggyback here to say thanks to everyone. The community is a lot friendlier than I imagined and extremely knowledgeable. I am I made the decision to come over here, deals irl always seemed a lot more shady to me.

So, Hi and thanks everyone!

Yeah the possibility of never having to rely on an irl dealer again is just...  so very attractive.  Not even necessarily because they did anything malicious, but they've all just been suck total flakes.  And I'm sure none of them had any idea what they were selling any more than I had of what I was buying.

Very good post, RobLoblaw! +1 :)
However, regarding FE, we recommend that buyers never, ever FE for any vendor, for any reason.

To help out newbs, I wrote up a simple guide for ANONYMOUSLY buying bitcoins using cash, and transferring to the Road:
http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/item/2f9f85aa35

There is nothing to buy, and nothing to download. The guide is designed for buyers, not vendors, and it assumes no previous knowledge or computer skill.

View the information for free, and if moved, donate!

The bitcoin scene changes frequently. By putting this info in a listing, I can update it in one place rather than in many forum posts.

Enjoy,
MedicineWoman

Hey everyone!

I said that I'd post a review on the forums for this vendor who had some great service and a great product, and now I've found out about this 50 post rule. Kinda annoying, but it cuts down on spam so it's for the greater good.

What I've found is that a lot of ordering etiquette and precautions are just common sense, but I suppose I'm lucky cause I basically only order blotter-based products domestically, so it's nowhere near as risky as what some others have ordered.

The SR community is awesome! Anyone who doesn't at least browse the forums is missing out on so much in terms of reviews, discussion of vendors and so much more.

Welcome playpiano there is masses of info on here about BTC but it is a mercurial and ever-changing scene. Sure you will get it together, and once you have BTC, have a great shopping experience here on this remarkable site.

This is the cutting-edge of a social revolution, glad to have you along  :)

hi playpiano
i think the best bitcoin option for you will depend on what country you live in if you plan on buying online. i like to use a site designed for the country i live in and read lots of reviews. theres also lots of bitcoin miners who sell in person for cash. i have been doing this more lately cause you avoid fees and it goes straight into your wallet. no trace of anything under my name.

gpg is easier then it looks. i'm not professional but if you need any help let me know and i will try to get you set up
